These Six Presidential Candidates Have Taken Pledge to be Bipartisan Problem-Solvers

Former Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) and former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman (R) want the 2016 presidential pack to make some promises about bipartisanship -- and they've gotten several takers.

...cut...

The bipartisan Congressional Problem Solver Caucus was launched in 2014, and now Lieberman and Huntsman have turned their attention to the presidential race with the Problem Solver Promise Pledge.

That pledge says the candidate vows to work with both parties to arrive at solutions if elected to the highest office in the land. It also entails candidates committing to begin work on one of four No Labels agenda items within 30 days of inauguration. Those are: create 25 million new jobs over the next 10 years, secure Social Security and Medicare for another 75 years, balance the federal budget by 2030, and make America energy secure by 2024.

"If elected, I will gather House and Senate leaders from both parties within my first 30 days to begin work on at least one of the four goals in the National Strategic Agenda and to commit to a bipartisan process to achieve the agreed upon goal or goals," states the text of the promise.

"During the election, it will be the voters themselves holdinpppg the candidates accountable and deciding if a candidates’ statements and positions are consistent with keeping the promise," No Labels said. "If our next president enters office having made the Problem Solver Promise, No Labels will focus all of its resources on ensuring he or she keeps that promise."

So far, six candidates have signed the pledge: Dr. Ben Carson, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and businessman Donald Trump.

But O'Malley has accused No Labels of "dumbing down" their brand by having Trump on the list.

Not really. If they pledge to work on the listed items, how can they be faulted by not agreeing to follow the status quo now which is in total opposition to the common sense solution to all of the listed items? Of course only one man has the skill set to succeed at what they demand and that is Trump. Destroy the crippling rules, regulations, taxation and demands of the cheap labor express and you will bring the economy back into order with job growth which will solve the rest of the problems. The listed items are all dependent on JOB GROWTH and Trump is your man.He could not very well not sign because he has been campaigning on these problems throughout the summer. It even might have been laid as a TRAP, thinking Trump wouldn’t sign it. No harm, no foul. He is the only one who can accomplish turning the country around. The others are simply dust on a gnat’s wing.

Why is the list idiotic? You don’t want a balanced budget? You don’t want job growth? You don’t want Social Security saved? Etc. Etc. Etc.

Are O’Malley and Kasich in the House or Senate? I thought they were governors. How is Trump going to be forced to work with them when he becomes president?

Go Cruz! I want my conservative president to be a brute, who steamrolls his opposition.

One debate point at a time is steamrolling the opposition?

Dems=Nazis in the Reichstag, play footsie with them at your peril. I would pledge to marginalize them as much as possible.

Personally, I look forward to Trump making mincemeat out of the whole bunch. Am anticipating a complete rout when the libs try to “manage” him. It will be a joy to see!

I am very disturbed because I heard Trump also pledged to buy Girl Scout cookies and to brush his teeth at least once a day!

No Thank you.
These lying elected criminals haven't figured out that "bipartisanship" doesn't mean that the GOPe gives in to the other elected criminals across the aisle every freaking time!

If you can't have at the very least a .500 average, find a different job, losers!

AND QUIT MAKING PROMISES YOU DON'T HAVE THE IQ TO DELIVER!!!

The difference is that when Donald John Trump reaches across the aisle he will be grabbing the Democans and Republicrats by the neck, making them sit down, and do what he wants to Make America Great Again!

Perhaps one should read all about it as far as facts go instead of jumping the shark.

We have so many decent thinkers here and so many of them opt to knee jerk from a few key words and then follow the voices in their heads instead of actually reading and digesting the facts of things.

In short - he agreed to meet with a group to address one of the issues listed - no other promises and many consider his presence to be a problem because of his "brash and racist behaviors".

It takes all kinds to make the world go round and we have our share at FR...

Those who don't want Trump need to get off their butts and reach for their wallets to support someone they prefer - or shut the hell up because all they add is noise...

Now for a short public service announcement to all on FR:
We need to ensure we don't get another Obama-like America Hater as the next President.
The best way to ensure that is to actively support a candidate (even if he's "rich enough to do it on his own") as the next President.
I donate to the candidate I support and you should too, else, your "support" really doesn't have any meaning.

It's even worse if you use FR and don't donate. If you are one of those who feel it's OK to use FR daily w/o helping pay to keep the lights on, then please don't complain about the welfare leeches because, functionally, you are no different than any other who enjoys the fruits of others' work for your own benefit. Also, don't be surprised if others decide that your opinions are as worthless as your non-donations - hypocrites aren't worth listening to.

PS - If you are one of those unlucky few who cannot afford even a small donation to FR or a candidate, God Bless and happy FReeping!.....

Donate to FR

I don't think it's worth anything; it's not even to the level of an election promise.

It has as much force as the GOP "Loyalty Oath." Now that Trump and Cruz are leading the pack, it's been forgotten by GOPe.

Those are: create 25 million new jobs over the next 10 years, secure Social Security and Medicare for another 75 years, balance the federal budget by 2030, and make America energy secure by 2024.

They also have to commit to starting, in the first thirty days, having these "No Label" congress critters work on a policy to promote peace on earth by 2028 and goodwill toward men by 2040.
