If Trump is Mentioning Cruz’s Canadian Birth, He Must Know He’s Going to Lose Big in Iowa

Actual Title shortened to fit: If Trump is Mentioning Cruz's Canadian Birth Again Then He Must Know He's Going to Lose Big in Iowa

I am amused that Donald Trump is once again reminding voters that Ted Cruz was born in Canada.

Before speaking at a rally on Monday night in Lowell, Massachusetts, Trump stated, "Republicans are going to have to ask themselves the question: 'Do we want a candidate who could be tied up in court for two years?' That'd be a big problem."

Yet it was only four months ago just as the two were to appear together at a rally on Capitol Hill opposing the Iran nuclear deal when Trump told reporters, "I hear it was checked out by every attorney and every which way and I understand Ted is in fine shape."

There are two ways to explain his statement. First, Trump didn't mean a word of it, but wasn't willing to insult Cruz to his face before the rally. Second, it must be remembered that at the time Trump was leading Cruz in Iowa by a 3-1 margin. Last September, Cruz was polling at 9% in Iowa.

Needless to say things have changed. It's been awhile since a poll has come out of Iowa, but I'm Trump's people are doing their own internal polling and he's probably doing very badly. Trump is afraid of being embarrassed by Cruz in Iowa. Why else would he suddenly now give a damn about Cruz being born in Canada when he wasn't 4 months ago?

And judges at the Federal level will be more disposed to invent standing against a GOP nominee by the Dems than they were to hear anything about Obama.

Well, maybe Cruz is not talking tough enough for you on the deportation issue but what you quoted is not an attack on Trump... it is simply a statement of his own position.

He clarified his intentions on this matter again yesterday outlining specific steps he would take which may not be as satisfying as some of Trump’s bombast but would work.

I think you’re right about the way Donald Trump communicates. He uses short, declarative sentences. He uses hyperbole and slang. He talks like we do and people relate.

He doesn’t sound like a politician.

I think this is what’s attracting Blacks and blue-collar types.

Absolutely! Dems have already expressed pursuing this issue in court, as ironic as that is. There are some pieces still missing from the natural born citizenship puzzle, despite the hearsay/assumption media vetting authorities exclaiming otherwise.

Yes, but he was CONTRASTING his position with the supposed Trump position.

Listen, in this election we are fighting for our lives as a nation. We are way past the point of liberal vs conservative.

If Cruz can stand up and fight more power to him. I know Trump can fight.

Let me repeat, we are way past issues of liberal vs conservative.

“We are way past the point of liberal vs conservative.”

Speak for yourself, I’m a conservative, I’m never going to be scammed into believing those principles don’t matter by some smooth talker.

Though we have crossed swords on another matter, I am very pleased to see this comment. Somehow, the founding principles of this board have become irrelevant to so many.
