GOP Strategist Alex Castellanos: "No Takers" For My Anti-Trump Campaign; "Too Late" To Stop Trump Posted on January 10, 2016

Veteran Republican consultant Alex Castellanos tells Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd he has been unable to convince major Republican donors to fund an anti-Trump campaign ad blitz. Castellanos said there were several factors but the possibility of Cruz being elevated by Trump's demise was something the establishment did not want to risk.

"No takers," Castellanos said about his anti-Trump campaign.

*snip*

"Is it too late," Chuck Todd asked?

"It's too late," Castellanos conceded.

Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way.

Seems to be a pretty simple equation to determine what the “right thing” should be.

The Establishment Republicans could back Herself, and STILL lose.

Big time. And on so many fronts.

Right on. According to this piece Trump is being used as a foil to Cruz. Now I know I was right when I got on the Cruz train.

The first signs of the inevitable deal-cutting and merger between Trump and the GOP establishment.

Yep. We've been little signs here and there.

After a few trickles, the dam will give way and there will be a veritable torrent of deal-making...even groveling by the GOPe.

Possibly even before Iowa.

“Chuck also said it was sad that Hillary’s campaign was stymied by Trumps approach to Bill’s rapes.’

What is sad is that this predator was allowed to continue by his enabler, Hillary.

FU Upchuck!

Amazing that it’s “too late” and not a single vote has been cast.

"'Is it too late,' Chuck Todd asked?"

Did Chuck Todd tear up when he said that? :-)

I would love the Establishment to put $1 billion into the Jeb campaign to boost him up to 5%.

The GOPe noticed how Trump handled Clinton on the subject of Bill and sexism.

If they are beginning to get a clue (and that's a stretch), they will see that Trump is going to beat Hillary like a rug and start changing their positions so as to get some scraps from Trump's table.

If faced with your choice the GOP will likely trot Romney out again.

You can almost hear the power shifting away from the old moorings.

You see Alex my boy, the reason why you are not getting any takers is because EVERUBODY in the RNC and at Faux News keeps saying Trump won’t win so why should they waste their money?
Maybe if you askedfor stop Yeb or “Surging Ted” money you would have gotten somewhere.

It’s always seemed clear that the GOP wanted Trump to take out Cruz so they don’t have to. I think that if Cruz should win the nomination you will see him attacked from both sides, but I think they’d rather take their chances of Hillary defeating Trump in the general than to have to undertake the dirty job of fighting a sitting US Senator who they despise in the primary.

Is it possible that all these establishment funders were the victims of extortion in the past and felt they had to donate to curry the favor of the establishment?

But now that the establishment is on its death bed they see no reason to succumb to the extortion.

Is is too far to suggest they might even convert from their historic anti-capitalist position into a pro-capitalist position?

Trump really is armageddon to the people who make their living by lying to the American people, pitting us against one another, and by the buying and selling of political favors.
