Cruz dismisses Trump’s “police state” plan on deportations
Washington Times ^ | Sunday, January 10, 2016 | Tom Howell Jr.

...

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz said Sunday he will win the presidency by “painting in bold colors, not pale pastels,” and that his passion for repealing Obamacare, establishing a flat tax and enforcing immigration law will be a contrast to the “mushy middle” that doomed GOP nominees in 1996, 2000 and 2012.

“What they did didn’t work,” Mr. Cruz told CNN’s State of the Union.

Mr. Cruz, Texas Republican, is leading in Iowa ahead of the Feb. 1 caucuses, even edging businessman Donald Trump by several points in recent polls despite the mogul’s big leads elsewhere and nationally.

The Texan said his appeal is based on his loyalty to conservative principles and the rule of law. He said voters are fed up with GOP leaders who have funded the Democratic agenda through recent spending bills and that Democrats have allowed President Obama to circumvent the law through executive action.

He said he would work with Congress to achieve his legislative agenda, including repeal of Obamacare. That means he can’t literally repeal the overhaul on “day one,” though he is making it his top priority.

“I intend to follow the law,” Mr. Cruz said.

He said the law is also clear on illegal immigration — it is illegal — and that he would deport unlawful residents through regular law enforcement channels and e-verify, a system that allows businesses to determine if their employers are eligible to work in the U.S.

He said his plan does not include Mr. Trump’s call to go “door to door” to root out illegal immigrants for deportation.

“We don’t live in a police state,” he said.

At this deplorable point in America’s history, please don’t quote high blown moralistic platitudes to me. Illegal aliens and invaders will not be routed out of the places where “legal permanent residents’ are hiding them without drastic measures. In Trump’s words, “You either have a country or you don’t.”

Trump may not be able to change the Constitution with a stroke of his pen; but he can darn sure give the authority to enforce it back to Border Control and Law Enforcement. It has been stripped from those agencies by this tyrannical regime with “a stroke of the pen” and given to the hand picked traitors in our so called “Homeland Security.”

What once was considered rule of law is now called “jackbooted” by vapid, tap dancing politicians who know they will never have the fortitude to bring it back to it’s rightful place in our society.

Have you been to his site? I have and he DOESN'T want illegals to stay. However, he is totatly against Trumps SS Storm Trooper house to house search for illegals. Dump Trump.

Stop hyperventilation. Trump wants to use exiting laws and agencies to deport and remove all illegals. Cruz will legalize as many of them as he can, I defy you to show me where on Cruz's site he will deport all illegals. You fools twist your selves in knots trying to extrapolate things that do not exists in Cruz's platform.

“he is totatly against Trumps SS Storm Trooper house to house search for illegals. Dump Trump.”

So you feel that Trump is being too tough on illegals?

Not going to argue polls and surveys: let’s agree the devil is in the details.
That people want and approve of stricter immigration control is an evident fact.

Politically Cruz has ‘some’ (however much you want to think) problem with people trusting him to be effective on the issue.

Cruz sounds like a democrat. And so do you....

Cruz didn't send money to boht Hilary Clinton and the Clinton Foundation like Trump. Hell, Trump was a REGISTERED DEMOCRAT only 6 years ago.

Thanks for playing though Trumpet.

How will he know who was here illegally, and “won’t be allowed back in” , if they self-deport ?

The Canadian is getting desperate.

He gave money to Cruz and Paul too, but that doesn’t help your narrative.

Do you also want 11 million law breakers to stay?

It is a simple yes or no question.

Don’t worry. If you don’t agree with what Cruz says today he’ll say something different next week that you can agree with.

So Cruz thinks President Eisenhower ran a police state?

Americans want enforcement of the law but it is very much in question also whether Trump will be able to deliver on his promises to build a wall and more bureaucracy for family deportation raids.

Sounds like Cruz might have received a call from one of the donor class

A donor class that Trump does not have?

Trump has no puppet masters.

In the end Trump or Cruz will probably accomplish about the same.
Politically, now, the more one looks tough on the issue the better it is for them though.

“My gosh, this sounds like GWB did before the election. “

Not surprising since Ted was domestic/immigration policy adviser for the Bush/Cheney campaign...”family values” and all that.....?

Hey, Jack-booted thugs have to have an opportunity to bring their skills to the market, too. < /sarcasm >

In reality, there is going to have to be a little muscle used from time to time, but as in any law enforcement situation, it is fully recognized and countenanced in the operation of a civil society.

So lang as it remains within acceptable boundaries. And depending on the situation, “acceptable” covers a lot of different applications.

Maybe but being too extreme now is going to make it harder when it comes to explaining a plan in detail that most voters can agree with.
