Ted Cruz had a message for conservatives rabid for the repeal of Obamacare: Don't expect "Day One" results.
"The president doesn't have the constitutional authority to end it on Day One," he said in an interview aired Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union. "The only way to end it is to repeal that statute ... we will repeal Obamacare, but unlike Obama, I don't intend as president to be - to use his word - an emperor."
It's a rare appeal to pragmatism from a candidate who typically stokes the conservative id. It came initially as a response to questions about immigration, when he argue that presidents have the obligation to enforce the law on the books, whether they agree with it or not. Cruz rejected an immigration approach proposed by Donald Trump to send deportation agents door to door to round up immigrants in the country illegally.
"I don't intend to send jackboots to knock on your door and every door in America," Cruz said. "That's not how we enforce the law in any crime.
During an otherwise typical rebuke of Democratic and Republican leadership in Washington, Cruz paused to heap praise on longtime Senate Democrats who he said had shown principle: Ted Kennedy, Mike Mansfield and Robert Byrd. He said all three of the former senators would have rejected President Barack Obama's approach to separation-of-powers issues.
"What is amazing is how servile the entire Democratic Party is right now. I guess it's just the ends justify the means," he said.
Cruz was equally unsparing with his critique of Republicans who say he might crush Republicans down-ballot if he's the party's nominee. Cruz pointed out that Bob Dole, John McCain and Mitt Romney were "clobbered in the purple states" that Republicans need to win, and he argued that a more conservative candidate would give like-mined voters a better reason to run out.
Then everyone would screech about how they're abusing their power...all the time not realizing they're the ones who opened the door.
Maybe I'm just getting paranoid in my old age, but the longer this rolls on, the more I feel we're ALL being played for the purpose of people actually forcing the government into doing something it has no legitimate ability to do - 'legally' defining natural born citizen. The 'unintended' consequence, of course will be to further erode the borders.
But like I said, maybe that's just me.

so B.H.O. is Kenyan and he became president.
The other candidates supporters aren’t going to support Trump.
Unless Trump is a complete idiot I’d have to say he knew that before he started his scorched earth campaign.
It’s a healthy statement. Obama and Trump both promised things that they could not deliver. Some of what they could not or he (Trump in this case) cannot deliver was outside of Presidential authority. Other things are not remotely popular ideas (Obama closing Guantanamo, for instance). Trump saying he’ll be getting rid of gun-free zones at schools (not within a president’s power and likely popular where they were put in place)). It’s going to take some time to roll back Obama’s follies. Cruz isn’t saying it can be done overnight, the way Obama promised the Oceans would go up or down to his command when he was president. In the long run, we have to roll back liberal indoctrination as well. This takes a real conservative to preach to. Clearly, one man knows the topic better than the rivals.
They do defend everything he says and has said, even when the statements or actions are contradictory.
What is Cruz doing??? DAY ONE the new President should issue executive orders revoking Obama’s executive orders!
I will listen to the council of my contributors and SuperPacs.

Oh boy do they. Incredible.
... What is Cruz doing??? DAY ONE the new President should issue executive orders revoking Obamaâs executive orders!
OK. He is doing that. He has said so many times. Laws are different. You can’t do EO on those.
Trump - gospel truth.
Cruz - the devil.
That is the black and white of it and why Cruzers find trumpees so frustrating.
I am saddened that you took no time to understand the full meaning of what I wrote.

I'm a Cruz Supporter first with Trump as my second choice.
If Senator Cruz actually believes what you Posted, he is naive at best and delusional at worst. If any Freepers believe that of any of those three great Patriots that Cruz mentioned, well...
Cruz already said he would repeal the unconstitutional EOs on day one.
Try again.
Obama is now wanting to be Secretary-General of the UN.
FORGET THE PRESIDENCY OBAMA WANTS TO RULE THE UNITED NATIONS BUT ONE MAN MAY STOP HIM

Uh-oh. We’ll have some worried that Ted used the words “intend to...”
Emperor?
That statement is flat out scary.
We already have one, in case you didn’t notice. He sets the budgets and makes the laws WITHOUT Congress.
Proof, by the way:
Everything you say also applies to Ted Cruz. In fact, GOPe hates him more than Trump, since he threatend to shut down thier precious Government on many occasions! Trump is recently polling ahead of Clinton and Clinton will not step on Trump. Look what happened this past week when she tried. Result? Bill Clinton has been sidelined (at least temporarily), and Hillary is forced to turn to the mandrogenous freak Lena Dunham for support. Trump permanently tied Hillary to Bill’s behavior and called her out as an enabler. Wow! Even GOPe operative Chris Wallace couldn’t mount a coherant defense of Hillary Clinton while interviewing Trump. He got schooled again.
Well said. Both Cruz and Trump are playing it perfectly for now.
