It is not my desire to ever see someone use eminent domain to take your property and home to create a large property they can live on at your loss.
When it’s a massive enterprise like a hotel or another business that can be a real boon to the community, there are a lot of factors in play.
A hotel in the area can mean huge amounts of money spent in locations around the hotel. Resorts, businesses, city venues...
Tens of thousands of jobs are affected.
Should one family be able to block all this?
I recognize that sanctity of a man’s home and property. Still, there is compelling interest in other people having an income and them being able to have a home too.
Every person who becomes employed because a large complex is built, will be having a home paid for due to the business climate created.
Does one man’s home become more important than the thousands of other people who need to support a home?
This isn’t a black and white issue.
It’s not like Trump is the only guy that is going to benefit off this deal, and he’s a big bad guy for trying to create something.
Thousands will benefit.
Yes, without a shred of doubt, if the owner does not want to sell.
Forcing an owner to sell property for the benefit of another private owner is an absolute misuse of eminent domain.
Eminent domain must be used for the limited purpose of public buildings, roads, airports, ports, schools, post offices, forts, armories and the like. Never to facilitate the profit of a crony capitalist. Shame on any proclaimed conservative who holds otherwise. For shame.
This is where Trump has put his erstwhile conservative supporters. Defending the involuntary taking of private property to benefit a specific individual and the quest for personal gain.
And then using the classic social model exclaiming, see how the populace is better off?
Bernie Sanders, is that you?
