Trump: Kim Jong Un deserves 'credit' for taking out rivals
The Hill ^ | January 9, 2016 | Bradford Richardson

Posted on 01/09/2016 10:09:03 PM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Republican primary front-runner Donald Trump says North Korean communist dictator Kim Jong-un deserves "credit" for the cutthroat efficiency with which he disposes of his political foes.

"If you look at North Korea, this guy, he's like a maniac, OK?" Trump said at a rally in Ottumwa, Iowa, on Saturday.

"And you've got to give him credit: How many young guys - he was like 26 or 25 when his father died - take over these tough generals and all of a sudden, you know, it's pretty amazing when you think of it. How does he do that?" he added.

“Even though it is a culture, and it’s a culture thing, he goes in, he takes over, he's the boss. It's incredible."

After North Korea's government said it successfully tested a hydrogen bomb earlier this week, Trump called the authoritarian leader a "madman playing around with nukes" and a "total nut job."

But he also insinuated that Kim had some admirable qualities.

"I mean, it's amazing that a young guy would go over and take over," Trump said Thursday on Fox News' "On the Record." "You know, you would have thought that these tough generals would have said no way this is gonna happen when the father died.

"So he's gotta have something going for him, because he kept control, which is amazing for a young person to do," he added.

Trump has previously praised other world leaders with less-than-stellar human rights records.

He called Russian President Vladimir Putin a "highly respected" man in global affairs, after the Russian strongman called Trump "bright and talented."

I’ve ALWAYS enjoyed your articles over the years, but excuse me if I’m wrong, but I would gather that this past six months you habitually post a negative Trump article, at least one each morning. Usually, before my first cup of coffee, and this is not cool.

That is your preconceived perception, the facts would be different.

Here’s a suggestion, use me as a foil to get out what you see are Trump’s positive policy positions.

But if not, that’s okay.

Do as you wish, with my blessing.

I haven’t read any of your posts, or at least noticed they were from you since around the beginning of December. True as of late you haven’t posted anti Trump continually, but if you go back to 12/15/15 and work backwards, you were posting them daily one after the other. NOthing wrong with that, but some of the articles were so bias, I’m sure even you didn’t believe them.

So, I agree with you, for the past three weeks or so, you’ve behaved, and you’ve posted a delicious assortment of articles, mixed in with your usual Trump bashers.

I’m a huge Trump supporter but when he goes off half cocked spewing idiotic comments like this, I start to wonder.

It's a fair reflection of an opponent, not an endorsement for crimes. Trump has been warning about North Korea's nuclear weapons and development for months.

I agree that Trump wasn't endorsing or praising him, but Trump's statement was not a "fair reflection" of Kim Jong Un. It was not "amazing" that he was able to seize control - North Koreans (including, to some extent, even the generals) have been indoctrinated over the past 60+ years to believe that Kim Jong Un's grandfather, father, and now himself are, essentially, part-divine. Couple that with a few friendly/loyal/influential generals and some standard tyrant methods of consolidating power (read: killing off rivals), and it's not at all surprising or impressive or credit-worthy that he was able to do what he did at a young age. So, no, there's nothing offensive in what a Trump said, but it is a pretty shallow, poor understanding of the situation in NK.

I stopped trying to analyze Trump’s statements. Almost always they are taken opposite of what he intended, and ultimately we learn about the man.

Before we assume anything, how about if we see if someone asks the man directly if he “admires” or “respects” the NK leader. I doubt that Trump or any true patriotic American would admire or respect the NK leader or the Iranian Ayatolah, so what was Trump saying, that as a person, the man is “clever”... or “cagey” ... or must have some unusual power?

No, I think Trump is wanting to know, what is this man’s strong points what are his weaks points. How did he maintain his power, although Assad did the same thing when he took over Syria from his father.

The argument is made that the public is not smart enough to pick a candidate intellectually.

Proof is in the pudding. Nearly half of the voting public put Obama in the White House, not just once but TWICE. And even of those who voted Republican, many didn't and don't have any idea of what Russia (or China) has been doing in the past couple decades. Don't believe me, try asking the average person on the street, or friend or associate at work, even those who vote Republican.

Do you prefer Trump just call him an idiot or ordinary? But then he wouldn't be a threat. One can be "amazing," an amazing killer, an amazing lawyer, and other not-nice things.

I don’t really care what Trump calls him. I agree with Trump’s assessment that he is a madman (though that’s a pretty obvious statement), but disagree with Trump’s assessment that he’s done anything “amazing” or worthy of credit. I do happen to think that he is pretty ordinary - he’s an ordinary, petty, ruthless tyrant.

Working into the wee hours to spin the latest babbling of The Hero? Does he not understand that all the world is not "Saturday Night Live"?

It's becoming increasingly clear that Trump is, at best, a potentially dangerous incompetent buffoon. And at worst, someone in cahoots with the Russian-ChiCom-Iranian-Venezuelan-North Korean new world order alliance. These are very seriously times we're living in with these despot regimes all flexing their muscles. The last thing we need is another clown in the White House.

Donald Trump praises Kim Jong-un for how he 'wipes out' political opponents

Adam Withnall | The Independent | Jan 10, 2016

he US presidential hopeful Donald Trump has praised North Korea's despotic leader Kim Jong-un, saying the way he executes his political opponents shows "he's the boss".

Speaking at a Republican rally in Iowa on Saturday, Trump was met with a silent protest as he repeated his now-familiar assertion that Muslims shouldn’t be allowed to enter the US.

But while he continues to denigrate whole swathes of the population for following a religion, the billionaire reserved some praise for North Korea's dictator.

After coming to power when he was 28, Kim cemented his rule through a series of purges, including the execution of his uncle Jang Song Thaek.

"You've got to give him credit," Trump said. "How many young guys - he was like 26 or 25 when his father died - take over these tough generals, and all of a sudden - you know, it's pretty amazing when you think of it. How does he do that?

"Even though it is a culture, and it's a cultural thing, he goes in, he takes over, he's the boss. It's incredible.

"He wiped out the uncle, he wiped out this one, that one. This guy doesn't play games and we can't play games with him. Because he really does have missiles and he really does have nukes."

Trump was speaking after it emerged North Korea has carried out new nuclear weapons tests, which the hermit kingdom claimed involved its first hydrogen bomb. ..."

I think you misinterpret what this thread is about.

Well, the comments are a classic demonstration of the fact that the Trump crew here will not be fazed by anything that man says. It's exactly like how the Dems protect their champions.

I can not imagine anyone else shooting himself in the foot like this, and people responding, "Isn't he a great dancer?"
