In Iowa, Trump intensifies ‘birther’ attack against Cruz
ABC ^ | 1/9/16 | Staff

Posted on 01/09/2016 4:16:21 PM PST by VinL

Donald Trump intensified his criticism of Ted Cruz at two Iowa campaign rallies on Saturday, urging voters to reject the Texas senator by saying his Canadian birth raises serious questions about his eligibility to become president.

"He was born in Canada. I guess his parents voted in Canada," Trump said at an afternoon rally in Clear Lake. "So if you were born in Canada, immediately it's a little bit of a problem."

Trump added: "You cannot put somebody there that's gonna go in ... he's going to be immediately sued."

Earlier Saturday, Trump said at a rally in Ottumwa that Cruz "has to straighten out his problems," a veiled reference to the so-called "birther" issue. But he declined to elaborate further, saying, "We'll discuss that later."

Cruz, however, is a naturally-born U.S. citizen, and most legal experts agree that he is qualified to be commander-in-chief.

But recently, he has had to aggressively push back on questions pushed from Trump about his eligibility for the presidency. He renounced his dual Canadian citizenship in 2014, and on Friday, Cruz's campaign shared with the conservative website Breitbart a copy of his mother's birth certificate showing her born in the United States.

Trump did not attack Cruz.
Is Trump trying to create doubt so he can win. Sure.

Trying to create doubt and attacking are two different things.

Cruz is free to try to create doubt about Trump’s past, as well.

Here is a link to a 2005 Boston Law Review article that covers the topic...this is authoritative survey of law on the matter according to Laurence Tribe due to its in depth research...it is 100 pages in length, stating the issue is not settled.

Cruz parents were registered as Canadian voters.

A disproven lie. Knock it off. Ted Cruz was born before either of his parents became Canadian citizens, and his mother NEVER did.

Your guy just pansied out— and you know it. Face to face with Cruz, ready for the big fight, and Sissy Donnie runs to the ref and begs him to disqualify Cruz.

What a punk this Anita Hill Trump is-— that’s your hero???

Great...president barney fife— what an embarrassment.

Trump’s knowledge of government and foreign policy may be generally wide, but only an inch deep (e.g. nucular triad)...he eventually will get caught!

Cruz doesn't need to create it. It's there already.

By the way, has Trump renounced his British nationality yet? I haven't heard about it if he did.

Maybe, but it’s hard to get worked about it regardless. I’ve seen threads on this board for years debating whether Cruz is eligible for the presidency. Trump’s point about the Dems going after him full-force on this issue is a valid one b/c they will.

http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/01/08/ted-cruz-parents-canada-voters-list/

A document uncovered by Breitbart News indicates that the parents of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)97%
were named on a Calgary list of electors for Canada’s federal election of July 8, 1974.

Ted Cruz’s parents are listed as “Cruz, Eleanor, Mrs.” and “Cruz, Raphael, self employed,” both at 920 Riverdale Avenue, South West in Calgary, Alberta.

Canadian law restricts (and restricted) federal voting rights to Canadian citizens.

The point is that natural born citizenship is a clause put in to weed out divided loyalties.

Cruz was born a citizen of both Canada and the US, but can only be natural born citizen of one.

On the plus side this should end all that Trump/Cruz ticket nonsense.

A good term for what hoping for a Trump/Cruz ticket is: nonsense.

I've oft said I'd be happy with either a Trump or Cruz Presidency (leaned towards Trump if for no other reason than to watch media heads EXPLODE.)

Gotta say, Trump really ought to know better than this. This isn't even a legitimate question. This is very disappointing, it's not "Presidential" or what a presumptive nominee should be saying or doing.

When Trump attacks Cruz, you will know it.

The fact that most of you here debate about this issue only draws
attention to it.

Why should they when Trump will do it for them?

No one said it was law- it was a 100% vote of the Senate— And the reason it will never be settled, is the courts will never deal with it. What lawsuits of the hundreds filed against Obama ever were heard to any Court— they were dismissed.

Trump knows this— but he’s losing— and since he can’t stand the humiliation of losing, he’s looking for an out.

That’s your brave hero-— running from a fight?

Cruz was born a Canadian and U.S. citizen.

A Cuban citizen too, I think.

He can not be a natural born citizen of both, or the clause would not have been put in the Constitution.

Fortunately, he can be, just as Trump is. Each country makes up its own rules about who is or is not a citizen. The US can't allow itself to be whipsawed by other countries' laws.

Remember, it's the same with Trump. He's a national by virtue of the circumstances of his birth of both the United States and Great Britain. But as Americans we can't concern ourselves with what Canada or Great Britain do or we will forever be at their mercy.

What Trump is saying is that even he knows Cruz is eligible the problem if he is the nominee he will be sued by the liberals and be tied into court. Or at least the cloud will be over him running. This type of MSM attacks could have doubts and to the idiots out there they will believe it. Could cost him votes.

Which begs the (rhetorical) question: Where was the liberal, lamestream media when questions about Obama's birth status ran rampant (and in some circles, still do?!)

If only the liberal, lamestream media would've actually done their jobs instead of being the willing co-whores of the progressive liberal democrat party producing propaganda piece after propaganda piece .......

Trump is a billionaire and so many on this thread are not.

You are almost correct lol..and I like your posts.

Correction: None of us here is a Billionaire businessman. I wish some were because then Jim R. would not need to run a Freepathon every quarter. So on the Billionaire status, The Donald trumps us ALL.

Obama was sued weekly-— never bothered him- all were dismissed. Anita Trump, the pansy, knows this-— he just decided to crawl in the mud and show his cowardice.

Very weak— he’s looking like the handicapped guy he mimicked.
