A Baltimore Sun columnist wrote in a Thursday op-ed that citizens who legally own firearms are more frightening than the criminals who use the weapons on the rough streets of her hometown.
Tricia Bishop, deputy editorial page editor for the Baltimore paper, explained how billboards advertisements for guns and everyday Americans carrying them around made her sick.
“I’m less afraid of the criminals wielding guns in Baltimore… than I am by those permitted gun owners,” Bishop said.
She says this because she believes as a middle-class white woman, she’s shielded from her city’s criminal element but, in her opinion, she’s not protected from her neighbors’ legally-purchased weapons.
“I have the luxury of being white and middle class in a largely segregated city that reserves most of its shootings for poor, black neighborhoods overtaken by ‘the game,'” she wrote. “But I don’t know where the legal gun owners are or how to ensure that their children, no matter how well versed in respecting firearms, won’t one day introduce that weapon to my daughter.”

Reminds me of the people in the 1968 anti-gun hysteria who turned over their guns to the police, then complained they lived in fear of their neighbors who still had their guns!
What a moron. This woman should go over to a neighbor’s and ask to borrow a cup of ammo so she can shoot herself in the head. She is way to stupid to live.
Personally I can think of many things more important than whether or not a legal firearm is present that I would want to know before I let my daughter stay unaccompanied at someone else's home.
No doubt this Liberal moron supports Planned Parenthood which is responsible for 100 times more murders in a day than all the Legal Gun Owners in America put together do in a year.
“Look at that, son: that is what you call a stupid, ignorant, politically correct liberal white b!tch...”
I guess sheâll be moving to West Baltimore then.
...
She seems kind of racist to me. I think North Korea would be more to her liking.
It’s great to see how this woman researched before she took the time to write an op/ed piece that completely ignores the facts about how those law abiding gun carriers aren’t hurting people.
Colonel Cooper had a word for her kind.
Scott Greet should be
“She needs to publish her address as a gun free zone...”
I completely agree with you. It would seem the solution is simple, simply publish the names and addresses of all homes WITHOUT firearms so the writer and other worried people (who seem eager to be safe) can know where they won’t be in danger, consider them individual “gun-free zones”, after all the concept has worked so well in public buildings why shouldn’t it work here?
She wants a registry so that she can determine ahead of time whether or not her daughter would be "safe" visiting a neighbor or acquaintance.
Tricia, dear, you don't need the cooperation of gun owners to accomplish what you want. Simply organize the anti-gunners and create a database of those who agree with you. You will quickly have a thick book of safe places for you and your family.
Burglars and home-invaders will also take advantage of such a directory, but that is another matter.
So, Tricia, get started on this. I can't wait to have a way to determine that some household is anti-gun so I can keep MY family safe by avoiding it completely.
So, she has the *luxury* of being middle class and white!
Under lib standards, doesn't that make her guilty?
Because, it's my understanding that being a white middle class person - while choosing to segregate oneself from the *have-nots* - qualifies one as a racist.
So by her own lefty standards, it's obviously her duty to move to a desegregated area ASAP - for the cause of social justice, of course.
Dear Tricia, you are committing child abuse by shielding your daughter from weapons.
