In 2008, the situation was very different: he was wading into a case that had no immediate connection to Texas at all. But to see the signature of R. Ted Cruz on the brief would not have surprised the nine Supreme Court justices in the least. By that time, Cruz had been solicitor general for five years, and inserting himself into a case of wide prominence and importance regardless of any direct tie to Texas had become part of his playbook. He clearly saw the Heller case as a watershed in gun rights, writing that it would âdetermine whether the Second Amendment has any modern relevance.â And he was right. The Supreme Court in a 5-4 decision shot down the Washington, D.C., handgun ban and ruled for the first time in the history of this country that the amendment ensures an individual personâs right to have a gun for self-defense. The National Rifle Association recognized Cruzâs role with a resolution.

When sperm met egg. No story needed.
Ted Cruz has done more to protect the Second Amendment than anyone in Washington. We all owe him thanks for that.
Ted never stops fighting
Great article:
Very interesting to see an anti-Cruz liberal outlet like politico concede how incredible cruz is. Their descriptions of Cruz’s losing opponents are hysterically biased.
My favorite quote:
Cruz was emerging as a legal ideologue, but he wasnât just an ideologue. In speaking to people who argued against Cruz in the Supreme Court, or who watched Cruz argue there, or who just watched him in practice arguments, called moot courts, at various law schools, I found a dominant recurring theme: He was really, really good, and he got better as time went on. Even in his 30s, they said, Cruz was in a very small group of the best appellate attorneys and oral advocates who were Supreme Court ârepeat players.â
I would challenge anyone to read this rather long article and not conclude that this man must become President.
So true, and yet some on this site continue to disparage this great American in favor of someone who has never done anything but enrich himself.
Not sure how that could even be true with the tiny amount of bills that actually make it through the Senate.
It's interesting to look at the number of bills that Ted has written that have gone no where.
I'm sure his companies, stockholders and stakeholders never benefited. Yep, he did it all just to fatten his own bank account.
You suck at math.
Did you not read the article? The landmark case he won before the Supreme Court protected our right to keep and bear arms, against a challenge that individual citizens did not have that right. The decision was 5/4, that close.
Thank you for posting this piece. It is yet more documentation about an extraordinary conservative freedom fighter. Even his enemies acknowledge how sincerely passionate and brilliant he is in life.
My thoughts too. We are really blessed to have such a man running for us.
A better attorney would have gotten a 9-0 decision. Obviously, Cruz is a divider....(I'm just messing around...I thought you meant in the Senate).
No, he didn’t read the article. He’s star struck by reality TV celebrity Donald Trump. No need to read ...
Well there was a sperm of the moment and and egg...
Yes, he did it for his own welfare. That some others benefited was a peripheral issue. He had a reputation for stiffing contractors the final 20% he owed them on construction contracts. He also hired Polish workers at below $5.00 an hour to do high rise construction and they weren’t even provided hardhats.
Yes, it is an interesting read.
I reported your tag line. Gag a maggot.
He did something. You peddle trash like your hero.
To really understand how Ted Cruz became what he is, just look at his Dad... having been a prisoner of the communists in Cuba. The anti-communist, anti-socialist, strain runs strong in that family!
Check out what makes tick any candidate running, no more anti-socialist among ANY of them than Ted Cruz. He is true blue. If elected, he would be our finest president ever. Even better than Reagan.

Exactly! But Trump says he is the greatest and that is enough for some.
It is a really informative article.
