Pelosi leaves door open on question over Cruz's eligibility

... Nancy Pelosi wouldn't say Thursday whether she thought Cruz was a "naturally-born" citizen when asked about it...

She waved off weighing in, saying it was "inside baseball" and a constitutional issue. But she also made a point of pointing out that ...McCain -- who was born outside the U.S. mainland in the Panama Canal Zone at a military base -- was born in U.S. territory versus Cruz, who was born in Canada, saying "perhaps there is a distinction."

...Donald Trump escalated his attack against Cruz on Wednesday while the Texas senator sought to move past the hits and maintain his status as a favorite to win the Iowa caucuses.

In separate interviews with CNN, Trump and Cruz squared off over the businessman's comments -- reported Tuesday in The Washington Post -- that the senator's birth in Canada could pose a "big problem." Trump told CNN's Wolf Blitzer that Cruz, whose mother was a U.S. citizen, should go to court and ask a judge to rule that he's eligible to run for president.

"How do you run against the Democrat, whoever it may be, and you have this hanging over your head if they bring a lawsuit?" Trump said in an interview ...on "The Situation Room."

For his part, Cruz said he is certain that he never owned a Canadian passport, pushing back sharply on the idea that there is any legal controversy whatsoever./..

Experts largely agree that Cruz, who was born an American citizen thanks to his mother's nationality, is eligible to serve as president. The U.S. Constitution requires that presidents be "natural-born citizens," which Cruz is alleged to not be, as he was born in Canada. Cruz has the backing of most legal experts and U.S. case law, according to a 2011 Congressional Research Service study.

My honest opinion, Birther Trump is finished...he’ll never win the nomination.

You are so wrong...he has lead in all the polls since July, and he’s still leading....

And I’m finished with you, I’m not spoon feeding you anymore, you don’t want to listen to reason, so off you go....

If Cruz is ineligible then I assume Rubio is also ineligible. If Trump thinks it will help him, I think he is mistaken. It supports the image of him as a mean-spirited bully.

Obama, pelosi, Mccain, all coming out against Cruz on this.

The Uniparty is VERY scared.

On the question of Cruz’ eligibility, Trump has fine company supporting him on this. Obama, Pelosi, McCain, MSNBC, Geraldo, Grayson...

Cruz, on the other hand, has Levin, Harvard Law Review, Andrew McCarthy and host of constitutional law professors.

Hmmmmmm... decisions, decisions... which side will I go with on this....

The question is not “is Ted Cruz a natural-born citizen?”

The question is “can they convince a Liberal judge that there’s enough doubt about that to keep Obama in office indefinitely?”

...the American people hate whiners and a candidate whining about how he is being picked on is a sure loser.

A truism indeed.
And which Pubbie candidates have given us the most "treat me nice", "You're an insulting bully", and "they aren't fair to me" lines to ponder?

Trump and Bush.

Then, which candidate is most apt to toss shi## into the fan and which is most likely to try to bully & insult his way over an opponent?

Trump and Bush.

So how's this for a truism...
The first result will be a Rubio nomination and the second result will be a democrat win in November.

#20 does, indeed, give a fair explanation of what "Natural born citizen" meant at the time it entered the constitution, in the days of the Founding Fathers, and for the next 150 years or so.

Now, of course, the academic lawyers claim we have a "living constitution" that can be changed to agree with our current assumptions. No, the Constitution is a legal document that doesn't change just because some liberal wants it to, but doesn't have the votes to change it.

A "majority" of academic lawyers say that Cruz is qualified? It’s a safe bet that 99% of them are liberals, even if Cruz claims to be a conservative. I won't get into the issue of what Cruz really stands for, as opposed to what he says. - But he is NOT a natural born citizen. And just because Obama cheated and lied is no reason that we should do the same. That's for guys like Mitch the Bitch and Boner to do.

No, I'm not about to join in suing Cruz. But the Democrats certainly will, if they can manage to get him nominated first, which they same to be working on pretty hard.

David wrote:

McCain was not born in the Canal Zone; he was born in a hospital outside the Zone in Panama proper. I have a map which clearly shows the location of all the relevant locations.

Further, the Canal Zone is not in the geographical territory of the several states either; the US is not sovereign there any more than it is sovereign in Canada.

That said, it sounds to me as though there are an increasing number of Dems who now know that Barry was also born in Canada. Unlike Cruz, Barry was not a citizen at birth no matter which of the two ladies was his mother.

So doubtful the dems will ultimately suck up to make this the issue.

Both dems and traitor republicans will announce, oh, we didn't know until after 0 was elected, and thought it was too late, best decision for the Country, didn't want to create chaos, etc., etc., but now in order to get the country back on track, it's imperative we enforce the Constitution.

Can't have a country without a president, let's allow 0 to remain in office while congress debates a few years, then the Supremes will make their long awaited announcement in 2020.

Pick a fight with Cruz's eligibility and wipe all legislation signed by the current POTUS from the books. Let eligibility slide again and allow POTUS Cruz to disassemble all legislation signed by the current POTUS. Sounds like a win-win to me. As an unashamed birther, I want the same thing today I wanted seven years ago ... for the Supreme Court to grow a pair and hear the case based on its merits. We needed a ruling then. And because they punted for fear of being labeled "racist" we still need a ruling today. The problem is not going away and, worse, it's getting more divisive. It's past time they did their jobs or hung up their robes for good.

Why would a constitutional scholar, probably the best one since Alito run for President if he wasn’t eligible?

If anything, I want to hear what Obama has to say about it. Supposedly he is a constitutional scholar. The media should be talking to Dershowitz not Pelosi.

If the dems put legs on this, Cruz is finished...because you know that Hillary will jump on it....

Which is exactly why Cruz *should not* use the "move along nothing to see here" strategy in dealing with this. He should say simply "this was settled during Obama's vetting and my claim to natural born citizenship is cleaner and stronger than his". Put the spotlight on Obama instead of pretending there is no spotlight!

Hey Don, there's not enough 3rd grade liberals to get you elected....

Excuse me "DILBERT"... but this is exactly what has happened OVER & OVER again in Cruz's short 3 year Senate tenure.

BOTH the DEMS and the GOPe have openly and intentionally compromised Cruz at every opportunity.

They hate him more than Trump.

What Trump is advocating to Cruz is to deal with this NOW and get himself validated, thus putting the issue to rest and behind him.

Instead you attack Trump for making a common sense suggestion.

Is it any wonder I refer to you as "Dilbert?"

I assumed because you copied it from your favorite coloring book?

Birther Sissy Donald couldn’t beat Cruz head to head, so he tried a sleazy attack. And in so doing, he lost the nomination.

You can color that fact in a light blue-— try to stay inside the lines.

I think there are enough people desperate for what they see as a strong leader to elect Trump.

I’ll support Trump if nominated, of course, but not with as much enthusiasm.

I remember his attacks on Ben Carson which didn’t bother me as much as they should have because I was not for Ben Carson. That’s human nature but not good human nature.

Now he has this sly attack going on Cruz which he is trying to pass off (and succeeding with his supporters) as just wanting to help Cruz deal with the issue now

Why? Why is he bringing it up now. It’s nothing new and has been discussed over and over and deemed settled. Now, apparently, thanks to Trump, it’s not settled and everyone is talking about it.

Trump can’t stand that some polls show Cruz ahead in early caucuses. He simply cannot stand to be behind anybody.

He has better motives but his ego rivals Obama’s.

It’s early yet and I do think you are wrong about a dem win because they have no good candidate.

But you’re right about what Trump’s action created. It did cause me to be ticked off at Trump and it may very well cause some uninformed people to be leery of Cruz.

So, yeah, big mistake.

Go to Limbaugh’s site, and read his take about him. Limbaugh nuances it- but he likens it to Anita Hill/Thomas.

I liked Trump- but this was as underhanded, sleazy and contemptible as it gets— He’s lost, and I don’t say that in spite. Objectively, he needed Cruz supporters to obtain a majority, and he’s never going to get them.

The gutless Birther stabbed Cruz in the back.
