NO NO NO: Ted Cruz is NOT flip-flopping on ethanol
Right Scoop ^ | 1/6/16 | Staff

Ted Cruz's critics are doing everything they can to try and hurt him among voters in Iowa, even if it means accusing him of flip flopping when that's absolutely not the case.

America's Renewable Future has a new post titled "Senator Ted Cruz Listens to Iowa Farmers, Supports Renewable Fuel Standard Through 2022".

In that post they play audio of Ted Cruz answering a question about ending ethanol subsidies, where he said he supports a 5 year phase out of the subsidy. People have done the math starting at 2017 and concluded that the subsidy would remain until 2022.

Heres the audio:...

Of course, his critics are now saying that Cruz is pandering, that he's gone soft, even flip flopped on ethanol in order to get the Iowa vote. But this is simply not the case.

Once again, Amanda Carpenter steps in to explain that Cruz's support for a 5-year phase out is simply nothing new:

"I just listened to the Cruz audio. He said what he's always said. RFS should be a 5 year phase out. It's what his legislation said in 2014"

Even liberal reporter Dave Weigel is flummoxed by those alleging that Cruz is flip-flopping

"Don't understand the "Cruz flip flopped on RFS" charge. He's always been for a 5 year phase out. If he takes office in 2017, that ends 2022. It honestly feels like a pressure group trolled Cruz and asked reporters who don't cover ethanol (uh, hi) to fall for it."

I did not say Cruz flip-flopped. So I guess the answer to your question is NO

Can't you see both statements as being true?

Not really. To phase something out is not the same as ending it. It's not as absolute or definite. Beside that, when something is going to happen in the future, it almost never happens.

"I did not say Cruz flip-flopped. So I guess the answer to your question is NO"

Then who were you talking about here?

"It’s not uncommon for candidates to change their minds or positions, but it’s really pathetic to see their unhinged supporters try to tell you that they didn’t."

“There’s a big difference.”

Not really. It is called kicking the can down the road. Politicians are experts at it.

Then to whom were you alluding in your post #15? Cruz supporters, or Trump supporters?

All I'm waiting for is the next debate when Trump has to deal with Cruz face to face and defend this sleazy, little girl attack.

It will be just like the "maniac" apology -- weak, pathetic and humiliating before a national audience.

I'm looking forward to it, too. And isn't there another debate in SC the day before the caucuses?

From here on in these are going to be the Trump/Cruz debates, with both men standing next to each other. Trump will suffer from the comparison.

I was specifically referring to all candidates and VinL.

Me: "There's a big difference"

You: "Not really. It's called kicking the can down the road. Pols are experts at it"

------

Ted Cruz promised to be a different kind of pol. There's been quite a bit of poli-speak from him lately. A few weeks ago, it was something he "intended" to do. Last week, it was a statement about gay marriage that was a little bit of all things to all people. Then there's the very mainstream political, even above the norm, aggressive campaign donation solicitations over the holidays.

No, I don't think Cruz has joined the dark side. But maybe he needs to take a few days away from it all, especcially away from advisors who are influencing his decisions and campaign.

JMHO
