SIOUX CENTER - During a bus tour stop in Sioux Center, Iowa last night, Senator Ted Cruz expressed support for the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) through 2022.
Responding to a question from an ethanol investor from Iowa about whether he would allow the landmark energy program to continue through its current expiration in 2022, Sen. Cruz responded by expressing support for the RFS through 2022.
Senator Cruz also expressed passionate support for breaking through the so-called "blendwall." That "blendwall" makes it illegal for ethanol to expand its market penetration, and I intend to eliminate the EPA blendwall to get rid of that barrier, which will enable ethanol to expand in the marketplace to a much larger penetration to sell more ethanolâ¦."
The comments were substantially repeated at another stop in Cherokee, Iowa the same evening. You can listen to audio of the remarks here. and below.

Is this real? I don’t think “America’s Renewable Future” is legit. It’s just another leftist “green” organization.
Tedthanol standards renewed through 2022.
Farmers and rural communities across Iowa are going to be encouraged by Sen. Cruz's remarks. He is clearly listening to the people of Iowa and understands the importance of the Renewable Fuel Standard to America's economy and energy independence, as he started the caucus process calling for immediate repeal. While not perfect, this is a big step forward by Sen. Cruz.
Typical politician Flip flop.
They have an audio recording at the site if you doubt the veracity of the article. Listen to Cruz yourself.
They are the SUPER PAC spending money on ads attacking Cruz in Iowa.
Why is allowing a current law to expire a flip flop? You have to allow the business time to adjust to the new reality. You call transitioning flip flopping. I'm for getting rid of entitlements, but I don't think we could just cut them off tomorrow and expect things to go along smoothly.
Why not phase it out, immediately? Or within the next year...if you’re truly wanting a repeal?
Why the campaign season pandering?
When the evangelicals are not enough to push you over the finish line:
step 1.) change your immigration stance to the right of Trump
step 2.) Cave on Renewable Fuel Standards to ensure the crony capitalist vote.
The problem is that his supporters lay it on too thick, mainly as a way to try to shame peopl supporting Trump.
It leave Cruz, not knowing what people on places like FR say on his behalf, with little room to move on any issue.
So when these guys boast that “Cruz will break the Ethanol subsidy because he is a true constitutional conservative!!!”, all you have to do is wait and here is a story where it is ok to leave it until 2022.... 1 year after his first term would end.
Try to tell them, but hell why would they need to listen to fake conservatives like us anyway?
This is NOT a FLIP-FLOP! You just weren’t listening when Ted said exactly this in the past! You need to remember to listen only when Ted is saying the things that will be his final answer just before the election. Ted Cruz is the ONLY AUTHENTIC CONSERVATIVE!
That’s what he said....but with the birther thing and his corker vote, H1B bill, and everything else this guy is doing, and now hiding his information....another obuma as far as I’m concerned....but Trump will take the heat for it and then be proven right again, and the cruz idiots will still continue to act like he’s Saint Cruz...
And with what Jim has come out and said, I really don’t know if I even want to be on here anymore...we have to have discussions on these matters, if it were Trump I would want to know...

Agreed!
Cruz flopping again? It’s always better on issues like this is to stick with your position. The flip flop always worse.
“Yeah, but let’s not let the facts get in the way of another noob Trump troll tainted red meat lunch plate special. “
Well if the subsidies are BAD, then why let them keep going?
This is why we need to hold a single national primary on a single date. Otherwise narrow special interests in a few small states rule the day.
If Vermont had the first primary we’d be subsidizing Ben and Jerry’s.
Cruz's web site lists the programs/departments he would cut. The Renewable Fuel Standard is on that list along with things like sugar subsidies.
His site does not say after 2022.
This is a pure cave in to ensure votes. Ted is as establishment as they come with moves like this.
Since he's been for allowing the law to expire in 22 all along how is this a flip flop?
Donald Trump on Subsidies:
Partial transcript of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s speech in Des Moines, Iowa on Dec. 11, 2015:
Question on renewable fuel:
Donald Trump:
...Well, look he’s [referring to Cruz] from Texas. To the best of my knowledge, there’s a lot of oil in Texas. Right? So you know, he gets a lot of money from the oil companies and he’s totally against ethanol and everything else you’re talking about.
And I’m not. I’m totally in favor.
And you know, it’s a big industry here. It’s a big industry.
You know, if that industry is upset, Iowa’s got problems.
I was amazed. I was here three weeks ago with the group...They were such amazing people...And I learned so much about it. I was in favor of it even before...
...Beyond even the fuel capacities, which we want to create as much as we can, tremendous numbers of jobs in Iowa. And I said to myself, if Ted Cruz is against ethanol, how does he win in Iowa? Because that’s very anti-Iowa. I don’t know how he wins in Iowa. I don’t know.
No, but I’m totally for it. Okay? Thank you.
The Cruzers on this forum will find some way to say Ted is still principled and that there is some valid constitutional reason for him flipping his position....Of course, Cruz isn’t like the rest of the politicians and never panders, so there must be some other reason for him changing his position. /s/
