Senator Ted Cruz listens to Iowa farmers, supports Renewable Fuel Standard (Ethanol) through 2022

SIOUX CENTER - During a bus tour stop in Sioux Center, Iowa last night, Senator Ted Cruz expressed support for the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) through 2022.

Responding to a question from an ethanol investor from Iowa about whether he would allow the landmark energy program to continue through its current expiration in 2022, Sen. Cruz responded by expressing support for the RFS through 2022.

Senator Cruz also expressed passionate support for breaking through the so-called "blendwall." That "blendwall" makes it illegal for ethanol to expand its market penetration, and I intend to eliminate the EPA blendwall to get rid of that barrier, which will enable ethanol to expand in the marketplace to a much larger penetration to sell more ethanol…."

The comments were substantially repeated at another stop in Cherokee, Iowa the same evening. You can listen to audio of the remarks here. and below.

Yes, I said that in the post you were responding to. It is not a percentage written in law but a specific volume. That volume was recently changed because the gasoline consumption did grow as much as planned.

Cruz has always said he is for a 5 year phase out. He hasn’t changed his position. He realizes that you can’t abruptly pull the rug out from under an entire industry, but he does not support a mandate or subsidies going forward from that phase out.

Perhaps you should judge a candidate by what he says and does, rather than impressions of what other suggest he might do.

I guess I'll have to, since his biggest supporters are apparently trying to deceive people.

“FYI....I posted a quote, from the article at OP link, from the Director of the ARF. Here it is, again, for you....

In response to Sen. Cruz’s statements, ARF state director Eric Branstad said:”

Your problem is you are quoting Arf Arf, NOT what Cruz has said on the matter!

“The subsidies ended Jan 1, 2012 for ethanol”

Subsidies in name only. (SINO!?)

http://www.taxpayer.net/library/article/corn-ethanol-subsidies-are-alive-and-well

excerpt:

“While VEETC was finally eliminated at the end of 2011 (in addition to the tariff on imported ethanol), corn ethanol subsidies live on. The federal Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) was created and expanded in the 2005 and 2007 energy bills, respectively, mandating that fuel blenders use a minimum amount of corn-based ethanol each year...”

“..Even if Rep. King attempts to argue that the RFS isn’t a subsidy, he surely can’t ignore all the other government giveaways for ethanol. The industry enjoys subsidies through farm bill energy title programs such as the Rural Energy for America Program and the Bioenergy Program for Advanced Biofuels; tax breaks such as the Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit, Master Limited Partnerships, and biodiesel tax credits; and various Departments of Energy and Transportation programs...”

end excerpt

BTW - Cruz also wants to get rid of the subsidies and special tax breaks to the oil companies too. (Credits that would remain would include not taxing capital investments, expenses, child credits, mortgage interest and a couple others like that. Those credits would be available to all industries).

Phase out? While being quoted he wants to edpand it's use?

"I intend to eliminate the EPA blendwall to get rid of that barrier, which will enable ethanol to expand in the marketplace to a much larger penetration to sell more ethanol

So he is for more use of Ethonol, but says he wants to phase it out. Does he need Iowa votes so badly he will he will sell out the American people?

Are you satisfied with all the talk about border control or the no wall since 2012? Talking about it for years and the results are the same. Still open borders and no wall and it’s now 2016. Yes on the trail Trump made it an issue of his campaign. Cruz is now up in polls ,be happy and maybe Trump will get the Wall finally built that Cruz has been talking about for years.

You can apologize for your rude comment.

My comment was not rude, it was a statement of fact. You are relying on a statement from the ethanol lobby, admitted opponents of Cruz, to support the claim that Cruz was calling for IMMEDIATE repeal??? How silly is that. especially when there is documentary evidence, in the form of actual legislation, that shows that Ted's plan was for a 5-year phaseout of the RFS. It is so sad that Trump supporters repeatedly rely on leftist propaganda to try to take down Cruz.

They still have a benefit, the mandate.

Subsidies involve tax dollars, not just a benefit.

LOL...I was just quoting the linked article. Sounds like this director needs a phone call from Cruz, if he’s putting out incorrect info.

What Cruz is REALLY for is LESS FRICKING GOVERNMENT. Let the free market work. Get rid of the mandate. Get rid of the subsidies. Get rid of restrictions imposed by the government. Let the market (the consumers!) decide.

"Thanks for the wrong information.

Ted has for many months said that he is for a five year phase out and repeal."

Might as well forget it; they're rolling. Facts won't get in the way of another pathetic attempt to trash Cruz.

If Trump tweets something, they'll get distracted and run over there to exclaim over it.

This discussion was based upon who started the discussion on the Wall.

If you want to start on another topic, go ahead.

Ted Cruz has been clear that congress as well as the president has not done enough to secure the border.
