Ted Cruz said during an appearance in Iowa on Monday that thereâs a difference between him and Donald Trump on immigration.
The Texas senator, who is leading the field of Republican presidential candidates in Iowa according to the latest polls, was asked by a man in the state if, like Trump, he believed that all undocumented immigrants should be deported.
Cruz replied, âAbsolutely yes.â
âAnd in fact, look, thereâs a difference,â said Cruz. âHeâs advocated allowing folks to come back in and become citizens. I oppose that.â
Cruz is on a six-day trip around the state to shore up support for his candidacy. He made the remarks during an appearance in Boone. The video of the exchange was uploaded to YouTube on Tuesday. Hereâs a transript of the exchange:
QUESTIONER: Both you and Donald Trump are really strong on immigration, but he supports deporting all the illegal immigrants. Are you willing to say the same?
TED CRUZ: Absolutely, yes. We should enforce the law.
Q: All?
T.C.: We should enforce the law.
Q: Ok.
T.C.: And in fact, look, thereâs a difference. Heâs advocated allowing folks to come back in and become citizens. I oppose that.
Q: So no citizens and all of them?
T.C.: So, if you read I have a very detailed 11-page immigration proposal thatâs on my website itâs TedCruz.org. It was designed with Steve King and Jeff Sessions were the two who sat down with me to prepare it and it is enforce the law across the board.
Sorry, this isn't a deal breaker for me, but Cruz hasn't been strong on this issue.
Until now. That should give you pause.
The fab shop I worked in was not offering lower than market value and if you were proficient and showed up for work everyday your job was secure. The pay at that shop was the same for all classes or skill of workers. If you could weld mig, tig and stick without rejections because of flaws you got top wages, because you were valued, period. This was a high volume shop, I averaged about 25 fits a shift for my three welders, the same as the other 6 fitters on that shift. It was quite difficult to keep all the welder and fitter positions filled, and it wasn’t because of pay, just couldn’t find enough qualified labor.
I’m not sure. Maybe because they want to? Novel concept.
Good for you to ‘ignore’ them, though ;-)
(I guess this is a new version of ‘ignore’....the Billy Jeff Clinton version. Depends on what your meaning of ‘ignore’ is :)
The fab shop you worked at does not reflect the actions of companies like Apple, Disney, American manufacturing, the banking industry, the medical industry or any other in 2016.
Not really, there is a shortage of qualified skilled labor in this country.
Yes. The persona of a New York sharp operator egomaniac is SO attractive.
Maybe the applicant for those companies need to learn a skilled blue collar trade and become employed.
I am a big fan of apprentice programs, bring kids in after school, while they are still in High School, to teach them a trade.
Maybe because they want to?

Wasn’t a “they”- just one— but glad to hear I didn’t ignore a comment from you— wouldn’t do that.
trump has said touch back amnesty.
Illegals must temporarily leave the country. The “good” ones (variously vaguely described as “hardworking”or “productive,” definitions that Harry Reid could drive a Mack truck through) will be “expedited” back.
I assume trump won’t expedite any criminals or welfare recipients, and that cuts the number roughly in half. They get to jump in line over folks have been waiting years. They don’t go to the back of the line. They are “EXPEDITED.”
And then, he’s stated we gotta give them a path to citizenship.
So, half of 12 to 30 million illegals get expedited back to become citizens.
Above and beyond the people we take through the regular process.
Cruz is telling the truth. “In it, he highlights Eric Trumpâs description of his fatherâs immigration plan:
âThe point isnât just deporting them, itâs deporting them and letting them back in legally. Heâs been so clear about that and I know the liberal media wants to misconstrue it, but its deporting them and letting them back legally.â
Which echoes Donaldâs previous comments:
âI would get people out and then have an expedited way of getting them back into the country so they can be legalâ¦. A lot of these people are helping us ⦠and sometimes itâs jobs a citizen of the United States doesnât want to do. I want to move âem out, and weâre going to move âem back in and let them be legal.â
The key word is expedited. An expedited process is another way of saying that illegals are going to cut in line of those who have been waiting for years.
There is no question about it: that constitutes amnesty. Ron Fournier has described Trumpâs plan as âgold-plated amnesty.â

Its so hard Kelly because Teddy has no intention of deporting anybody.
It is the expedited part that scares me. Once they are back in, the Harry Reids of the world will say it is unfair to deny them the right to vote, citizenship, etc...
If you do this, and expedite their return, more illegals will come in and try that route, rather than wait for legal entry.
That’s amnesty. If you’re for it, that’s fine. I understand your point of view, but you’ve just joined the “Chamber of Commerce Cheap Labor Express.” These echo the arguments of Jeb.
But call it what it is.
Abrams called Cruz an anti semite last month because Cruz called Rubio a neo-con.
Abrams is not Cruz's foreign policy advisor, he's an advisor to Rubio.
You are passing on a lie and your source of information is full-of-it.
It’s private in that it’s a one-on-one and not on the stump. Cruz has yet to make these statements ‘public’. If/when he does then it’s game on.
As far as who wins the war on immigration Cruz is going to have an uphill battle here. Since July Trump has owned this issue and has branded it TRUMP. Cruz hitting him on this and then going harder than Trump may not be enough in the end, but time will tell.
Why won’t Cruz just say the words, “I will deport all illegal aliens” ?
And how about the anchor babies, Ted? Ted has said he won’t deport them.
Has Ted reversed himself on HB1 Visas?
Ted won’t ban all Muslims from entering country either.
Jeb says he will enforce the law too, so color me unimpressed.
GG2,
With the launch of Trump's big ad campaign, and Cruz getting hit by second-tier candidates on immigration, and within weeks of the first caucus, Cruz is feeling the heat.
2nd-tier candidate Paul among others are pounding Cruz.
Paul's negative ad on Cruz feature another Fox interview. A one and half minute video.
'Where Does Ted Cruz Stand? '

Ad looks effective.
