"I tend to err on the side of security," said 2016 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on the Hugh Hewitt Show.
2016 Republican presidential candidate and billionaire real estate mogul Donald Trump said that he supports reauthorizing the USA PATRIOT Act and bulk cell phone metadata collection by the National Security Agency in an interview on the Hugh Hewitt Show earlier this month.
In the above-embedded clip, Hewitt asks Trump, âOn metadata collection, Ted Cruz is glad the NSA got out of it. Marco Rubio wants it back. Whatâs Donald Trump think?â
âWell, I tend to err on the side of security, I must tell you,â Trump replied, âand Iâve been there for longer than you would think. But, you know, when you have people that are beheading if youâre a Christian and frankly for lots of other reasons, when you have the world looking at us and would like to destroy us as quickly as possible, I err on the side of security, and so thatâs the way it is, thatâs the way Iâve been, and some people like that, frankly, and some people donât like that.â
âAnd Iâm not just saying that since Paris, Iâm saying for quite some time. I assume when I pick up my telephone people are listening to my conversations anyway, if you want to know the truth. Itâs pretty sad commentary, but I err on the side of security,â said Trump.

"He who would trade liberty for some temporary security, deserves neither liberty nor security." -- Benjamin Frasnklin
He doesn’t even listen to himself. To the cult, he can say no wrong.
Just one more reason on a long list of reasons why I won’t vote for this clown.
I err on the side of liberty. Enough is enough. Trump is as bad as the rest.
My contention has been both men are not perfect.
I hope we get all of the details on what both of these guys believe before we cast our votes.
So we’ll just all sit on our hands again (like 2008 & 2012) and let Hildabeast win in 2016?
I’d rather vote for half a conservative and a 100% spit shiny liberal.
I’ve been posting Trump’s positions and statements and getting attacked for it. There is a cult of personality around Trump like the one around 0bama.
No candidate is perfect. You have to find the one who’s hte best exemplar of our principles and of fidelity to the Constitution and go with that person.
If that person doesn’t get nominated, you look at your options at that point and pick the best one you can find.
But, but, but,...a wall.
Isn’t that the truth!
Alarming that there are so many misguided salivate at Trump’s daily populist red meat kibble.
In spite of the fact that Trump demonstrates little knowledge or regard for solid conservative constitutional beliefs.
He’s a long time New Yawk liberal bedfellow to those who are pro-abortion, and pro-gun control.
He prefers a surveillance state.
He likes gov’t eminent domain that benefits private developers.
He took over Ross Perot’s NY Reform Party in 1998.
No matter to his dupes...
If you did you proper search you would know that this has been posted quite a few times on here for weeks now. every candidate has their followers, even Cruz, and it’s also a cult of personality for him on here too.
How bout erring on the side of the Constitution: Amendment IV: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
Nice try. This is from a month ago.
And still current. This is Trump’s position as of today, and it’s the same position for which we all criticize Rubio.
Hmmmm ... why would Trump fumble an issue that will cost him votes from both the libertarians and the conservatives? Heck, even the base of the democrat party do not approve of the domestic spying privileges provided. Did he misspeak? Or his he throwing the game to Cruz

Everything about Trump screams big government authoritarianism, always has and always will. This statement fits perfectly well within his worldview.
Maybe it’s because out of all the national radio talkers Hugh Hewitt is the GOPe frontman, and Trump was just pandering.
A very bad position IMHO. Get rid of patriot act and all spying against Americans without probable cause and a proper, real court order ( not rubber stamp “order” by “secret spy court”). Deport islamics ASAP. Then USA will be reasonably secure again
Which is what the “Freedom Act” would do. It would require probable cause, but expand the number of tools available once you get it. That seems sensible.
