Will ‘Electability’ Sink Trump?
Roll Call ^ | Jan. 3, 2016 | Stuart Rothenberg

Most national polls show Republican frontrunner Donald Trump trailing likely Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and faring worse than other GOP hopefuls against her.

That raises an obvious question: Could doubts about Trump's strength in a general election derail his bid for the Republican nomination, or would GOP caucus attendees and primary voters simply ignore poll numbers that suggest Trump would be a risky bet in November?

SNIP

But Quinnipiac University's Dec. 16-20 survey showed Trump's image with all registered voters at 33 percent favorable/59 percent unfavorable - dismal numbers, and the highest unfavorable rating of any GOP hopeful.

Trump trailed Clinton by 11 points, 49 percent to 38 percent, in the mid-December Fox News ballot test, while Cruz and Clinton were tied at 45 percent and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio held a 45 percent to 43 percent lead over Clinton. The Quinnipiac poll found Trump trailing Clinton 47 percent to 40 percent, while Cruz and Clinton were tied at 44 percent and Rubio trailed Clinton by a single point, 44 percent to 43 percent.

But not every survey showed Trump trailing Clinton so dramatically in hypothetical match ups. For example, a Dec. 17-21 CNN/ORC survey showed the two candidates separated by only two points (Clinton 49 percent, Trump 47 percent). Of course, Cruz held a 2-point lead over Clinton and Rubio a 3-point lead in that survey, seemingly confirming that Trump is a weaker nominee against Clinton than at least two other Republican hopefuls.

But even if additional surveys between now and the Iowa caucuses show Trump's relative weakness in the general election, it is not yet clear that GOP voters - and Trump voters - will care. Opinion about the importance of "electability" as an issue for voters has been divided over the years.

And your IQ is higher than my 145+ or my friends with multiple college degrees. You are worse than a fantasy-land liberal.
Wanting a person with expertise running a business instead of a lawyer politician is stupid only in your imagination!

You must know the MSM doesn’t like Trump... elites hate him.

They hate him because he can “communicate”. Simple understandable answers.

Also not afraid to say

1. Yes I bought politicians and I expect them to deliver

2. Yes, my marital life is fair game

3. Yes, I have taken contrary positions in the past , but I’ve changed

4. Here’s the stuff that you are getting representation on regardless of party

Go Donald

So I ask you, and everyone else, what states do you think Cruz or Rubio take that Romney didn't?

I think Cruz or Trump would win in a Reaganesque landslide. Rubio would be a squeaker. Just my gut. Hillary is a horrible candidate. No cult of personality for her.

Much more than we are with your fantasyland posts! How much is the Bush Establishment group paying you to cause strife between the two top non establishment candidates so their/your boy can move up?
We are on to you and your game. It will not work!

Will continue to support both Trump and Cruz! You loose!

I’m totally with Trump... he’s put it all on the table for anyone to see.

Yep, he WAS a Democrat.

So was I - so were lots of us... we ‘grew up’... got wiser... saw the world as it really was. It didn’t disqualify Reagan and it won’t disqualify Trump.

I agree with you on Trump, I disagree on Cruz, I just don’t see him opening up the map. I don’t see any new states coming into play with Cruz, that aren’t in play with Rubio.

I don’t see Cruz bringing the upper midwest or mid atlantic into play, let alone the north east.

Time will tell how it all plays out, but that’s just how I see it.

Trump is as establishment as they get!

There is no way that can be covered up.

Cruz and Trump are opposites.

Cruz worked his own way through school. He fully understands what it is like to be us.

Trump is without a clue.

You are still spewing out mindless Trumpbot garbage, even after I have repeatedly proved your wacky conspiracy theory to be false.
Deal with it, Trumpbot: Trump is getting clobbered by Hilary Clinton in head to heads, and Ted Cruz is doing a heck of a lot better against Hilary Clinton than Trump is. THOSE ARE FACTS.
Now that wasn't so hard to accept was it?

Trumps grandmother was widowed with three children to support. His dad was oldest at eleven she sent him to trade school to learn electric/plumbing and other building trades while still in high school. Trump spent every weekend working for his dad. Painting battleship grey hallways, stoops and yard work. His children were also expected to get summer jobs (work on construction sites-working at boat docks). While in college he bought property on credit, converted them to multi-housing units while according to one of his roommates they lived with the rats and roaches. After graduation he sold those properties making his first million.
(You should try reading. It is usually taught in elementary school )
The Trump family is the American Dream on Steroids. From a German immigrant in poverty to a multi-billionaire fortune in three generations. It’s the German work ethic common in the farmers of the heart land

And by the way Uncle John background includes the radar used to win WWII and the development of radiation used to treat cancer. He was the MIT professor that DT occasionally mentions .

Sister is a colleague of Sam Alito and spoke for him at his senate confirmation hearing. They have identical judicial records as they worked on the appellate court in NJ.

Thank you for, once again, so thoroughly explaining the Trump family true American Dream story.

I find it fascinating and love learning more details, each time you post :)

Any time
There is a lot of material that the American people need to be informed. Rubio, Cruz, even Bobby J brag about their families and the American Dream. But it is truly the Trump family who fled Germany because the young me. We’re being used as cannon Fodder to support the Kaiser ( his great grandmother chose to send son to America to help support family rather than his certain death on front lines. She too was a widow with young children to feed

The reason he seldom mentions his sister is because she is a federal judge emeritus I believe that as such if other judges recluse themselves she may be called to actually adjudicate a case

Of course I’ll mirror Cruz’s positions....and continue to support. But he’s not selling his brand...he’s telling it as it is in Washington and has been calling them out and exposing them from day one.......Trump likes to “Borrow” Cruz’s points he’s been firm on long long before Trump got in the game.

F Hillary , she can never be potus

If the American people are stupid enough to choose her
I hope the Mil pulls her plugs before she can take the oath

They do not want her as their C&C , and in times like these
that matters more than the votes of millions of nitwits

imho

Exactly. I went to the rally in Knoxville and they would have a hard time filling one bus with unionistas.

They would have had to bring them in from Ohio or someplace north of here and that didn’t happen.
