Can a President Cruz work with Congress?
As an open and vocal supporter of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) 100%âs presidential campaign, I find that those not yet committed to Cruz tend to more frequently ask me two specific questions than they do any others.
The first question concerns general election electability: âHow can Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) 100%, Tea Party conservative purist, possibly win a general election?â The electability debate has truthfully been analyzed to death elsewhere, and I do not intend to address it here. For now, suffice it to say that I would never support Cruz if I did not find him completely capable of soundly defeating Hillary Clinton in a general electionâand, furthermore, that for various reasons I find Cruzâs chances of defeating Clinton in a general to be virtually indistinguishable from Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) 94%âs chances of doing so.
The second question is, I think, the more thought-provoking one, and it goes something like this: âHow can a President Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) 100%, anti-establishment Tea Party icon, he who called his own partyâs Senate Majority Leader a âliarâ on the floor of the U.S. Senate, possibly work with Congress to advance his substantive policy agenda?â This is an entirely fair question to ask. With the exception of Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) 100%, whom in the aftermath of the 2013 shutdown I nonetheless believe has conscientiously strived to emerge as more than a mere âRobinâ to Cruzâs âBatman,â Cruz has very few allies in the Senate. He does have a devoted cadre of fellow rabble-rousers in the House, but these are largely limited to immigration hardliners and House Freedom Caucus types.
I get asked this second question frequently enough that I wanted to write a post on how I usually go about answering it.

Does he mean like Obama worked with Congress?
No more calls — we have a winner!
A lot of TEA folks tell me they have doubts of Cruz due to his wife’s Goldman/Sachs’ connection.
Did you read the complete article, if you did not I highly recommend it, and this person’s blog/editorial will answer all your questions.
It’s my guess that if Cruz had to “work” with Beelzebub he would find a way.
They don't like Cruz because his wife worked for Goldman Sachs (forget that she was just a peon and didn't have any say in leadership of that bank), but they don't make the same argument of Trump (who no doubt) has MANY more friends on Wall street and in the Big-Banks than Cruz ever would!?
It's ludicrous.
And you base that on what? His faith in Christ that repudiates every evil work that Satan ever did!!?
Get a grip on reality.
I was only saying it because he is a POLITICIAN.
Politicians do that kind of thing, make deals with ANYONE, if it suits them and their cause.
Perhaps you don't have a grip on reality yourself if you think that politicians are anything else but deal-makers.
So using bold face type and many exclamation points makes it true? Just curious...
What’s worse is they’re dealing with other people’s (taxpayer’s) money.
Yup.
You’re right I did go overboard (and realized that after posting), sorry. I realize you were just mentioning a figure of speech.
That said I think the author of this article is largely correct.
Same could be said of Trump as well, he’d be up to making a deal when it’s in his best interest (even with the establishment in Congress).
Or it just looks like you’re yelling which is usually an indication of the weakness a point or position.
Didn’t know historical references but that is my gut feeling about Cruz.
It is 1980 all over again and Teddy is the absolute best for the job.
Does he mean like Obama worked with Congress?
I hope President Cruz goes to Congress and Says it’s my way or the Hiway!!!!
A lot of TEA folks tell me they have doubts of Cruz due to his wife's Goldman/Sachs' connection. How do they think Cruz's campaign is funded?
If you want to talk about his wife, I have stronger doubts about her connection(s) with CFR and her work for them on open borders policies.
