There's a myth among establishment Republicans that Senator Ted Cruz, as Donald Trump put it, "can't get anything done" because the Capitol Hill Republican establishment won't work with him.
But the record, especially on issues that unite the old Reagan coalition of economic conservatives, cultural conservatives and national defense conservatives shows that claim isn't a myth - it's a lie.
You'd be hard pressed to find a more establishment Republican than Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (FL-25), who represents a huge district in Florida that runs from the western suburbs of Miami and Hialeah, across the Florida Everglades and then north to the farming community of La Belle.
Rep. Diaz-Balart has endorsed Jeb Bush for President saying he's "all in" with Bush.
Rep. Diaz-Balart voted for the Ryan - Obama Omnibus and issued a press release singing its praises.
Rep. Diaz-Balart is a proponent of "comprehensive immigration reform."
Rep. Diaz-Balart was appointed to the House Appropriations Committee by former Speaker John Boehner and has always been a reliable vote for more spending.
And Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart is the House sponsor of a bill, the Muslim Brotherhood Terrorist Designation Act that Senator Ted Cruz introduced to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a foreign terrorist organization and finally end the U.S. operations of this subversive Islamist organization.
"I proudly join Sen. Cruz to introduce this bill in both chambers. This legislation codifies into law something that is long overdue. The Muslim Brotherhood has a long history of terrorism around the world. The group supports and stands behind numerous terrorist organizations that are responsible for acts of violence and aggression," Rep. Diaz-Balart said. "It is time for Congress and the Department of State to recognize and sanction them as they deserve - as a foreign terrorist organization."
As Senator Cruz justified and summarized the bill:
"This bill recognizes the simple fact that the Muslim Brotherhood is a radical Islamic terrorist group. For years, American presidents of both parties have correctly designated the Brotherhood's various affiliates, such as Hamas and Ansar al-Sharia, as terrorist groups.
They have designated individual Muslim Brotherhood leaders such as Shaykh Abd-al-Majd Al-Zindani, who was complicit in the 2000 attack on the USS Cole, and Sami Al-Hajj, who was captured on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border in 2001 running money and weapons for al Qaida, as terrorists.
Now we can reject the fantasy that their parent institution is a political entity that is somehow separate from these violent activities... A number of our Muslim allies have taken this common-sense step, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. As this bill details, the Brotherhood's stated goal is to wage violent jihad against its enemies, and our legislation is a reality check that the United States is on that list as well."
Capitol Hill Republican leaders have known for years about the subversive activities of the Muslim Brotherhood, and how it has worked to place people, such as Hillary Clinton's close aide Huma Abedin, in positions of power and influence while funding and encouraging violent jihad against America, in America.
Some of these "leaders," such as Florida Senator Marco Rubio, sit on the Senate Intelligence Committee and the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, where it would have been natural for a bill to stop the Muslim Brotherhood from operating in America to originate.
But until Ted Cruz got together with Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart and introduced the Muslim Brotherhood Terrorist Designation Act nothing was being done to stop the Brotherhood's subversive activities.
Over the next few weeks we are going to knockdown other myths and lies about Ted Cruz's record and about his ability to assemble a winning right-of-center coalition for the Republican primaries and the November battle with Hillary Clinton.
So, consider this one a twofer demonstrating that not only does Senator Cruz work effectively with the Republican establishment without compromising his principles, but where Ted Cruz has been a leader in the fight against radical Islam, Marco Rubio has been MIA on the most important national security issue of our times - the threat to constitutional government posed by Islamic supremacist organizations, such as the Muslim Brotherhood.
"But the record, especially on issues that unite the old Reagan coalition of economic conservatives, cultural conservatives and national defense conservatives shows that claim isn't a myth - it's a lie."
Cruz is the only candidate who will get things done that are on my punch list.
All I know is that one day John Boehner said unequivocally that he would not be stepping down from the speakership. That afternoon Ted Cruz had a meeting with house conservatives and the very next morning Boehner announced that he was stepping down.
I’m not saying it was due to Ted Cruz but it sure looked like it.
We need someone more moderate, a Rubio or a Trump!
Someone who can reach across the aisle and work with the Democrats!
Someone like that can really win, just like McCain and Romney, right?
We need someone who can hold off the establishment, media, and Democrats. Trump is the only one who has and can continue to do that. Cruz is drafting and hasn’t had to face the left’s wrath head-on.
Nailed it! Donald John McCain Trump, reaching across the isle to make a deal. It’s the Art of the Deal!

Yes, he can.
All I know is I don’t want anyone who plans to work with McConnell-Reid-Pelosi-Ryan. If a real conservative can’t be president, there’s no reason to mess with elections anymore. We should just assume there will be civil war. Cruz is doing something no other conservative has done. He’s been a no compromise conservative and is surrounding himself with no compromise conservatives. What I’m trying to say is, for reasons stated many times on FR, someone like Cruz really is our last chance to peacefully get our country back.
Cruz is the most articulate, and most statesmanlike, most courageously conservative (yes, including Super Salesman-Wheeler-Dealer trump in the assessment), and easily the most dignified.
Indeed, Cruz will get things done, and PRESIDENT Cruz will restore dignity to the White House.
Why just look at Free Republic.
The right of center voters here are so united.
The red balloon on “Free Markets” is what you want, if you are a nationalist, and not not a globalist traitor to America.
That poster is a globalist
Never like Trump. Cruz has never has his name lead every story on every channel in every article for months on end, and all negative.
And, of course, he is for Renewable Fuel Standard (ethanol mandate), so governement can pick winners and losers.
Trump's Record on Free-market Issue: (from the Conservative Review)
Trump has a terrible record on free market issues. The only bright spot is the Federal Reserve's quantitative easing, but this glimmer is countermanded by his repeated support for bailing out Wall Street and the auto industry, and increased stimulus spending. Of particular concern is Trump's belief that the government can use eminent domain powers to seize private property in the name of private economic development. This comes as no surprise, given his support for using eminent domain to profit his own company.
Trump supported the Supreme Court’s 2005 decision in Kelo v. City of London, allowing public authorities to seize private land for economic development by private investors; Trump said, “I happen to agree with [the decision] 100 percent.” (National Review) This is no surprise given Trump’s attempt to use eminent domain in his own line of work. (Institute for Justice)
Trump supported President Obama’s 2009 stimulus, saying: “The word stimulus is probably not used in its fullest…you know, certain of the things that were given weren't really stimulus. They were pork, as we call it, or they were gifts to certain people. But overall, I think he's [President Obama] doing very well. You do need stimulus and you do have to keep the banks alive.” (CNN)
Trump supported TARP, saying, "You had to do something to shore up the banks, because ... you would have had a run on every bank." (CNN)
Trump supported the 2008 auto bailout, saying, “I think the government should stand behind them 100 percent. You cannot lose the auto companies. They’re great. They make wonderful products.” He also said that the federal government could “easily save the companies.” (Daily Caller)
Trump criticized the Federal Reserve’s intervention in the debt market, saying quantitative easing creates “phony numbers” that mislead the marketplace and “will not ultimately benefit the economy. The dollar will go down in value and inflation will start rearing its ugly head.” (CNBC)
Donald Trump has a history of using eminent domain to complete business deals. Multiple times Trump has supported the use of government agencies to take possession of homes and businesses for use in his private business plans. Eminent domain seizures are reserved only for public use of property rather than abuse by the government taking property from one individual and giving to another. (Washington Post)
Donald Trump has sought and received crony capitalist tax breaks for his commercial properties in New York. These tax breaks, and even an abatement, force the property taxes of other property owners to rise at the expense of the connected. Special treatment for one business or industry over another with the tax code conflicts with free market principles. (National Review)
In 2009, Trump supported Barack Obama's call for limits on the pay of executives. (CNN)
