One thing that worries me about Trump is how he will react as president in the event he's compelled to do something wildly unpopular with a significant segment of the population - like use the bully pulpit to compile congress to defund a major welfare program.

Will he try to convince the greater population of the right thing to do, or will he knuckle under to public pressure.

I honestly do not know. Perhaps someone can provide an instance where he stood on principle regardless of the heat he took. And not just heat from the media and political class.

Trump is a deal making negotiator. You will lose half of what you want. Which half? We can only guess.

illegal immigration
sanctuary cities
Islamic immigration
gun rights
trade deals that hurt our nation
bringing jobs home
elimination the Department of Education
eliminating Obamacare

I’m sure there are more issues that he has stood fast on.

How do we get people off Welfare? First, we get everyone back to work. Then we start weening the Welfare class off their generational dependency.

Determine who can work. Then start making their checks and benefits 1/36th less each month. In 36 months, they are off Welfare.

He seems to be taking the universal heat now.

(And, smoking the field under sniper fire, per wishes of pundit in chief, Rick Wilson— a Republican.)

How much heat do we have in mind?

What makes you think Trump would even contemplate defunding a major entitlement? He's on record as supporting Social Security and Medicare as they are.

I personally don’t think Trump has any guiding principles except as relates to promoting himself.
He has changed positions on everything possible. I also don’t see him changing his demeanor, bullying and whining - attacking all who he perceives criticized disagreed with him.
