The Christmas Eve showing of âItâs a Wonderful Lifeâ may be intended to make you believe in the importance of even an ordinary personâs life, but underneath that, what are the filmâs secret hidden messages, the ones that become apparent only after two or three eggnogs? Letâs mull over some of the wackier possibilities.
Itâs a salute to atheism. Itâs âthe least religious but most humanist film you could ever see,â said David Wilson in The Guardian, because it suggests people should fix their problems on Earth rather than waiting for God to help out. Regarding Jimmy Stewartâs character George Bailey, Wilson notes: âEven if he does at one point pray to God, [Bailey] is not religious at all, but simply a man trying to find transcendence in the routine of his life and in his duties to his family, friends and community .â.â. [director] Frank Capra .â.â. had a lifelong apathy towards his Catholic upbringing, and

Itâs Commie propaganda. A 1947 memo by the FBI containing interviews with Hollywood types, which became of interest to the House Un-American Activities Committee, stated, âWith regard to the picture âItâs a Wonderful Lifeâ, [REDACTED] stated in substance that the film represented a rather obvious attempt to discredit bankers by casting Lionel Barrymore as a âscrooge-typeâ so that he would be the most hated man in the picture.â This, according to these sources, is a common trick used by Communists. The pressure eased up when a witness liked by the HUAC, ex-Communist screenwriter John Charles Moffitt, testified

The uncommon fantasy is your post 34. I challenge you to find two pieces of Catholicart that represent the “vast amount” you claim to have seen somewhere,
.
Yes, we all want cosmic justice, but the fact is that most comeuppance will be delivered at the Great White Throne judgement.
You mean the ones that aren’t aborted?
Why do you find the film depressing?
Really? It made it realistic, He’s about to go to jail and under intense stress, it humanized the film. How many husbands have never yelled at their wives, children? It was out of character as noted by the children and wife.
.
You’re kidding, right?
Angels are not people that have died.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
So far no one who has replied to you thinks that angels are dead people. That is just more Hollywood/liberal nonsense.
Not Catholic myself but even I knew that was not Catholic teaching and you needlessly delivered a low blow to Catholics.
No. I just want proof of your assertion.
I'm stealing that one. :)
Your kidding right? It’s a wonderful life is a classic Americana film. Anyone trying to turn this movie into atheistic, communism or anything else has smoked one too many doobies in Denver. Quite frankly coming from a small town, it is the epitome of what happens when someone is in trouble. In Iowa you would see farmers helping other farmers crops be harvested if illness or accidents happened to them.
.
Oh?
See post 64 :o)
I love a happy ending.
“You made one mistake Mr. Potter. You double-crossed me and left me alive.”
.
Obviously you are not familiar with the word of God.
Everyone can have their own opinions, mine is I love the film and watch it every Christmas season along with A Christmas Carol and a few others...
More of the P.C.B.S. that is ruining this country...the libs ‘speak’ and everyone just sits back, about time people started speaking out for and against things again....
In fact, it’s a bunch of Hollywood Jews making fun of Christians but that’s a long running inside joke, one that just happens to show up in this movie as well as others.
