To many of the billionaires it felt like a mugging.

Rove's 2012 crash is having profound effects on the 2016 Republican primary. To begin with, George W. Bush's Brain is no longer considered much of a brain. "I gave Rove $500,000. What did I get for it?
Nothing!" Langone told me. Two of Rove's most generous 2012 funders, Texas billionaires Bob Perry and Harold Simmons, have since passed away, and their heirs have turned off the cash spigot. "Everyone is still shocked Romney lost," says Simmons's widow, Annette. "I haven't committed at all." So far this year, Crossroads has raised just $784,000, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Rove insists he's still a player. "We'll be involved in the Senate races," he told me. "Depending on who the presidential nominee is, we may be involved in that, but that's a long way off." What Rove is not is anywhere near the center of the Republican Party. "But for his perch on Fox News, Karl would be in political Siberia," says a top Republican strategist. "The going joke is that he must have a picture of Roger Ailes in his underwear to keep his contract."
It's not just that Rove is personally marginalized. Donors have awakened to the realization that topflight consultants can earn millions from campaigns regardless of whether they win. "It bothers a lot of people that politics has become a cottage industry. Everyone is taking a piece of this and a slice of that," says California winemaker John Jordan, a former Rove donor. "Crossroads treated me like a child with these investor conference calls where they wouldn't tell you what was really going on. They offered platitudes and a newsletter."

“All I can say is that my life is pretty plain
I like watchin’ the puddles gather rain
And all I can do is just pour some tea for two
And speak my point of view but it’s not sane, it’s not sane
I just want someone to say to me
I’ll always be there when you wake
You know I’d like to keep my cheeks dry today
So stay with me and I’ll have it made”
Class Warfare belongs to the other party. If you’re that upset that someone has $30 Million to go and throw on a Presidential Election, then go get a better paying job, smart up on investments, or play lots and lots of lotto tickets.
Otherwise quit whining. A person should be able to give whatever amount they want without getting grief. McCain-Feingold should be repealed.
This fake idea you keep trying to spin about how Trump is the only person that can’t be bought off is complete BS.
It’s funny that you attack Mercer for giving $30 Million and call that an “attempted buy off”, but what the hell is it called when the Donald pulls out the checkbook for Schumer, Pelosi, etc. Because that’s how Donald’s gotten things done, by playing the game.
I see. President Trump will get his policies passed by financially buying off everyone in Congress for their vote.
Mercer = bad guy for trying to buy election
Trump = awesome guy that gets things done by buying off politicians and playing the game.
LOL
But insist we much... we must... and we will much... about... that... be...
Mercer = bad guy for trying to buy election
Trump = awesome guy that gets things done by buying off politicians and playing the game.
You don’t see the irony in this statement?
It was never intended for our elections to be purchased.
George Bush won in spite of Rove, not because of him. Rove was a large part of what went wrong in the Bush administration.
He isn't an architect, he's a tin ear who panders to moderates because he has no bedrock values of his own.
Biggest fool in the Administration.
Class Warfare is a basic building block of the trump campaign. Without it, the rationale for trump disappears.
The stupid is epic.
I wonder how will a law saying you can donate to the candidate how ever much you want but if it is over a 1500 dollars in an election cycle you can not have contact with the candidate or those working in government in policy making positions.
Hoisted by his own petard?
;)
Well these billionaire GOPe should follow Trump and run for president. Trump admitted he was a part of the GOPe and now has a a lot of support.
You don’t know much about the business world, do you? Companies give money to the powers that be and that is true of just about any company. It is true here in this city and state. Companies can not succeed if they don’t.
Trump is living rent free in their heads 24/7. I hope he’s having as good a time as I am. :-)
Such a restriction would run afoul of the First Amendment...
Turd Blossom fer shur.
sounds like what I said was unconstitutional
I’m mixed on Rove, then and now. Back in the day, he was part of a team that averted us from getting Gore, when it mattered the MOST. I can NOT think of a fate worse than Gore as our president, especially after 911, except ... after that, Rove ran interference from us getting what we wanted, resulting in the current fiasco of the last 7 years. His time has long since passed and I wish he would take his smirk, and his bobble-head, and cheesy blackboard, and head off into the sunset, like the rest of that administration. Their time has passed.
