The Little Drummer Boy is a bigger villain than the Grinch. The Grinch at least has some sort of heart-size condition and soul-gunk problem that he can blame for his lack of basic compassion. What excuse does the Little Drummer Boy have for his behavior? None.
The Little Drummer Boy is just a plain old jerk. Specifically, the kind of jerk who insists on telling us about a time he showed up at a party without a gift and made everyone there miserable by playing what he thinks was a sick drum solo.
But he cannot just tell us. Instead, he constantly interrupts his own narrative with twee drum noises so that it takes longer.

Fixed it.
I am convinced the only reason anyone likes Springsteen at all is because for some reason it was cool to say you listened to Springsteen. His music is terrible.
I agree with every one of your comments. While it’s not a favorite of mine, the song carries a beautiful Christmas message.
I agree with the sentiment, but one can help thinking that the author, after quite a few holiday parties, decided to elevate the word count of her required column by including lots of rum-pum-pumming.
But it’s almost Christmas, so pass the rum!
Oh my, I am having uncontrollable giggles about that.
If that’s the biggest beef one has during Christmas, then one is truly blessed...
YES! mountn man, well said. I was thinking generally the same thing, but you said it so much better than I could have. I will add this..... One of my favorite Christmas songs is "In the Bleak Midwinter". It is an old British Carol that we seldom hear here in the USA. The last verse has the same message as "Little Drummer Boy":
What can I give him, poor as I am?In case you want to hear this beautiful song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MM-2Qz4hcwI
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;
if I were a Wise Man, I would do my part;
yet what I can I give him: give my heart.
Even more so than "I want a hippopotamus for Christmas"?
Sorry about that, now you're going to be humming it all day long........LOL!
Should he have brought him a hippopotamus for Christmas?
Not one of my favorites but there are certainly ones that are much, much worse.
"These three sides I ring,
a ring a ting ting.
Me and my thing, I must say."
Well any parent can tell you from experience that loud noises are not conducive to a happily sleeping newborn.
Yep, Bing was the magic in that duet. I don’t particularly dislike Bowie, but there are earlier (traditional, solo arrangement) recordings of the song by Bing which are just as nice. Perhaps it was just that smooth baritone that made the song work.
On the other hand, maybe not, because venison is halal.
I never was a Bowie fan before he appeared on Bing’s final Christmas show and haven’t much noticed him since, but their one duet showed what he could have done had he chose a more conventional path. I was amazed, and still am, God, 38 years later, when that big, crystal clear voice, peals out of David’s mouth. Bing’s voice, of course, had already been a national treasure for decades.
Yeah, like this one:

Just heard it for the first time yesterday. Wow.
In that vein, a voice that makes your ears bleed....is....*Santa Baby*. ;)
