Trump Celebrates Christmas at Rally Talking Putin Praise By JOSH HASKELL JOHN SANTUCCI Dec 19, 2015

Christmas appears to have come early for Presidential candidate Donald Trump as he basked in the praise received from Russian President Vladimir Putin while on the campaign trail in Iowa Saturday.

"Russia's got plenty of problems. But I'll tell you what, if Putin likes me and he thinks I'm a good, smart person, that's a good thing. Not a bad thing," Trump said.

Acknowledging that Trump's GOP rivals didn't exactly think an endorsement from Putin was something to gloat about, the billionaire businessman told the Cedar Rapids, Iowa, crowd in his best Jeb Bush voice "Putin called him brilliant, that's not good."

Accusing Bush and others of wanting to ignite "World War III," Trump pondered what it would be like if Russia and the U.S. could "knock out an enemy together."

"This would be a great start if you think about it. The money we spend on fighting everybody," Trump told his Christmas themed rally.

Weighing in on Saturday night's Democratic presidential debate, Trump called Hillary Clinton "a snake" and Bernie Sanders a "poor guy ... gave this whole thing away," referring to the first debate when Sanders said, "Enough with the damn emails," and said he would not criticize Clinton about her controversial use of a private server while she was secretary of state.

Trump is like Reagan and because he can and DOES see what needs to be done, he'll get it done!

He isn't "lawyerly", speaks clearly ( no weasel words ! ), and knows people who get things done!

All Trump has done so far is talk. He's made a bunch of grandiose promises and populist statements.

Reagan had such a great conservative track record as Governor of California that all the GOP moderates fought against his nomination, many of whom are part of today's GOP establishment. Trump is no Reagan. Reagan was no Trump.

EveningStar, you nailed, again: "All Trump has done so far is talk. He's made a bunch of grandiose promises and populist statements."

So true.

Well, except for focusing everyone's attention to illegal immigration.

that's it.

Oh, that's right, except for forcing everyone to talk about our unbridled Muslim immigration problem.

Yeah, Trump hasn't done a thing.

Both are talk. I like that he is saying those things, but it does not change EveningStar’s statement.

Using that standard, talk is all anyone has done

No. Some have voted. Some have authored bills and amendments. There is evidence there. Some have studied the Constitution for years, in depth, and have an on going record of articulating a conservative, Constitution founded originalist position based on that study.

Talk is important. The ability to be persuasive is important. Core Constitutional principles that are rock solid and unbending are more important.

We’ve been burned too many times. I need evidence.

Persuasive? As in getting people to talk/think about something they may not otherwise be willing to?

How many did Cruz persuade to focus on illegal immigrants?

How many did Trump persuade to focus on illegals?

I’ll give you the last word, as I’m sure you’re convinced Cruz was the one who persuaded everyone.

Gee...yet Cruz keeps stealing Trump’s positions and no, Ted didn’t come up with this stuff before.

Doesn’t seem to me that much persuasion was happening.

Seems to me that what has been happening despite authored bills and amendments Constitutional study, on-going records of articulating a conservative, Constitution founded originalist position, the country is going to hell in a hand basket.

Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result is Einstein’s definition of insanity. I think it fits here.

I do agree with you that talk is important, straight talk like Trump’s. But even more important than talk is action. Trump is a man of action and of results. So far Cruz for example is long on talk, great talk not withstanding, but short on results. He has not persuaded his colleagues in the Senate to support his positions that is not going to change based on all existent data. Cruz needs someone like Trump to clear the ground first and then his talents can be more effective in healing our Nation.

Persuade the people. Dug in power grubbers in Congress already know what they are rejecting. Only the people in their districts can oust them.

Sadly the people will not be rising anytime soon.

That is the problem with disparaging Trump. A large segment of America is impressed by his celebrity, wealth and business empire. They have not been touched by traditional politicians and do not put any faith in their speeches but they will listen to Trump because of his celebrity status. Trump’s direct statements address their experience of being disenfranchised in their own nation and for the first time or the first time in many years, they are engaged.

That is Trump’s strength; he makes the average person believe we can get back to a society where the American Dream can be achieved. Its important to be practical though idealism is soul satisfying. If Trump leaves the race those souls will not just vote for the next candidate; they will stay home.

Every election cycle we get 4 years worth of brand new voters just from the perspective of age. The liberals have control of the schools and the entertainment industry and have been marketing their vile ideology for years. It is time we do SOMETHING to counter that. That’s one area.

Then, with these debates, for example, if we would stop being stupid and treating it like a pro wrestling match, we would realize that it is a wonderful opportunity to educate the public in spite of the MSM.

We have control of both houses of Congress. Where are the Newt Gingrich types who go before the cameras and educate the public about conservatism (not saying he was perfect but he was a far cry better..)? Newt had that Contract With America thing that was brilliant. It was something people understood.

There are many things we can do to bring back conservative principles to this country. We should never give up. The liberals didn’t. They went from lunatic fringe to gaystapo in fairly short order. They faced defeat after defeat and kept pushing from every single angle possible. Now look. Who could have predicted that? The public still doesn’t agree, but the MSM polling tells them they do and the black robed tyrants tell them they must.

We need to quit acting ashamed of what is true and right and Constitutional. We will have to work harder than we should have to because we have been negligent in our duty — chasing rabbits and electing power grabbers rather than principled people.

There is always hope.

People can disagree on means even if they agree on the desired end. You and I most likely do.

I am short on believing that people can be educated into thinking clearly. Conservative principal work when they are put into practice. Capitalism and the competition of the marketplace raised the standard of living in this country. Inventions and creative utilization of niches made life for the average person more comfortable, gave them more leisure and promoted success. Then American liberals began to demolish the American way and demonize it. People didn’t pay attention. Now finally the suffering is bad enough that they want something done.

Rather than convincing people by words I believe we need to take advantage of an opportunity to get someone into office who will convince them by deeds.

Trump has committed to several actions that will really jump start a recovery. He has committed to a wall, he has committed to a moratorium on immigration, to shutting some of the Washington Albatrosses like the Dept of ED. and devolving responsibilities to the local communities and the states. He has committed to trade deals that favor Americans. He has committed to caring for our Vets. He is a pragmatist and a proven dealmaker with tremendous stamina. From where I sit that is a good beginning.

Adding...

The left keeps winning with ideologues. They poll to see where and how they need to sell their vile ideology.

The right keeps nominating weak, RINOs, alienating their base. They act ashamed of conservatism. They sellout from the start and then sellout some more if they get elected. Instead of using polling to see where they need to work harder at educating people on Constitutional principles, they use polling to define their “principles.” It’s backwards and always going to end up as a loser position.

Ironically the left believes in a living Constitution that changes from year to year to fit their whims. But they practice an unyielding ideology and elect unyielding true believers.

The right says they believe in the original intent of the Constitution and the need to amend it if it is to be changed. Yet they practice a fluid ideology and nominate and elect fluid people who adjust their principles to fit what they think will buy them power.

It may have been Cruz’s calling them undocumented Democrats earlier this week, but I’m thinking 6 months of non-stop pounding on it FROM THE OUTSIDE did more than a couple of words from an insider two days ago.
