How To Stop Donald Trump? A Lesson From Louisiana
Boston Globe ^ | December 19, 2015 | Joanna Weiss

Posted on 12/19/2015 4:40:42 AM PST by Jim Noble

So much for the establishment's efforts to stop Donald Trump. So far, nothing's working - not a thousand earnest think pieces or Jeb Bush's gripes in the latest debate. Not the wrath of news anchors and late-night hosts, who still can't resist booking Trump on their shows, but have started to get ornery during the interviews.

So maybe it's worth looking back to 1991 Louisiana, when establishment Republicans and Democrats banded together to defeat a popular, populist, problematic gubernatorial candidate named David Duke...

I spoke this week to some veterans of the anti-Duke battle, who told me they've been talking up this very idea, while noting that the parallels aren't exact. As hard as it is to divine Donald Trump's motivations - as much as his Bulworth act can sound like bigotry, and possibly is ...

Would a little more digging into Trump's past, plus a loud dose of Louisiana-style dark humor, accomplish what all of the hand-wringing hasn't?

See mk, I don’t think he will. As soon as he attacks, She will play the vag card and that will be enough to sway 3,4,5 % in a race where the electoral college is already stacked against us.

She needs to be deconstructed without personal or even seemingly personal attacks...and that is his weakest suit.

Yeah, I know. Most likely if it is between Hillary rotten criminal and DT, you'll stay home and not cast a vote, because your creds would be at stake.

BUT, this is probably the only scenario in which I would vote for the schmuck because I despise the GOPe even more.

That schmuck single handedly is destroying the GOPe right in front of your eyes.

Trump has already shown an ability to adapt and 'zig when they zag', example; Rush Limbaugh is all but taking complete credit for Trump backing away from his recent criticisms of Ted Cruz (based on Limbaughs's observations and comments), so combining that with the Hildabeast's utter unappealing persona, especially when she employs that regal tone of voice when addressing the 'peasants', I think that it will come down to "who is more likable?"

Hiliarly loses that one for sure.

Why oh Why would the Boston Globe want to stop Trump?

Of course Islamic princes don't like him, nor does the GOPe, the Inside the Beltway democrats and republicans don't either.

The gope republicans want their "boy" Rubio elected. If not him, Hillary would make them just as happy in office.

Keep taking the cheap shots at Trump, every time it happens his ratings go higher.

No I’ll vote. I always do. Just probably won’t vote in the presidential election. I will not ever vote for a liberal. Period.

You do realize that in one of those clips, it’s 1988 and he’s talking about being tired of seeing the country ripped off...hmmm 1988....who was president then? Who was he saying was ripping people off? Hmmmm????

Doesn’t really strengthen his conservative credentials now does it?

Joanna Weiss is lamenting the loss of press power... in the old days press boys and girls could get together and destroy candidates... of either party but usually Republicans. Today the MSM’s dripping hatred is ineffective - the press’s power was destroyed by their obvious bias and untrustworthiness... The MSM IS David Duke... Weiss's choice of victim is different... everything else is the same.

In the last debate, Hugh Hewitt a closet Rino tried to gotcha Trump with the question on the military triad.

Here is the only triad that is important illegal immigration, terrorism, the economy. The economy is in recession and the markets will probably go down by 50% by next November. These are all Trump’s strengths. Trump will win Iowa,NH and run the table on super Tuesday. Trump will win the presidency because this economic triad overrules anything else. As each day goes by this economic triad makes Trump stronger and stronger. By the time Iowa comes around Trump will be in the mid 40’s approval all because of the economic triad the only triad that counts

Your new triad makes a lot of sense. You should send that to Trump.

When the times get really tough and the decisions are excruciating, how do you know which set of guiding principles he will use to make his decision?
___________________________________________________________

I know exactly what he will do. HE WILL PUT AMERICA AND IT’S CITIZENS FIRST!

How do I know that?

I have read his books, read about his history, and watched nearly every speech.

Even in the things he is criticized for he is putting the country and its people first.

Although he no longer believes that single payer healthcare is the answer to our healthcare problems he did in the past. But, he didn’t espouse it as a way to control the economy or it’s people. He espoused it because he cares about people.

He cares that some people cannot afford insurance. He cares that people on social security need it. He cares that some people in this country are struggling and can’t find a job.

Have his ideas for solutions always been the correct way to solve the problems? No. But he is smart enough to see that and make corrections, which he has done.

You tell me one other candidate that is willing to go out on a limb and say things that are unpopular or not conservative enough for you because they care about the people of this country rather than getting your vote.

Name one.

Some things I have read in the past few days have lead me to believe that Jeb’s campaign will start to buy off some of Trumps delegates....this is what the obuma campaign did to Hillary, hence she didn’t win...

I have no doubt in my mind that this sort of thing is happening already or will be happening...Jeb is to be the one to hand the crown to Hillary and the GO Pee and RINO base and everyone else connected to the corrupted groups is the reason why Jeb keeps saying to Trump he isn’t going to be the nominee...

There is a lot of dirty history on the Bush family, and some have come out some hasn’t, but Jeb isn’t smart enough to do this on his own...there are way to many connections with the Bush family not to believe that with the Saudi connection and other connections this isn’t going to be tried...

I’m sure as smart as Trump is and the people around him, he has the ammo to shoot Jeb and these people behind him right out of the water...

I wished there was an indebt investigation into the background of the Prescott Bush era...I think it’s been unsealed...it needs to be brought up for the public to know about....

Trump is so far from racist. Each season of celeb apprentice had about as many blacks as white contestants. And they did very well, better than blacks did on reality shows where America votes. Even when I was begging the screen for Trump to get rid of some of those obnoxious women, Trump would keep them on (possibly just for drama).

You mean like Ted Cruz telling Iowa he’s against ethanol subsidies or publicly calling the leader of his own party a liar after the man lied.

You mean like that.

The problem with your criterion is this: if he’s not guided by conservative principles he may think that things like Obamacare is putting citizens first, or that the kelo decision Is putting citizens first. I would submit that many democrats think that they’re putting citizens first...but they’re not guided by conservative principles.

I don’t want a man who cares...I don’t need a man who feels my pain. I want a man who restored this country to its constitutional foundings. All you want to do is trade one despot for another who you think agrees with you.

LOL!

And here I was willing to wager you were a real, honest to goodness troll.

I know, the chances of you voting for Trump are so small that it can hardly be measured.

But, by golly, you are an honest to goodness American.

Nice.

First of all, Trump said in his book, published in 2011, that Obamacare is disastrous and needs to go. He proposes letting insurance companies sell across state lines and serious tort reform including loser pay. Is that conservative enough for you?

Second, while Trump said he supports alternative forms of energy, the word subsidies did not come out of his mouth. Everyone is trying to finish the sentence for him but he did not say it.

As for Cruz, he never would have had to call McConnell a liar on the senate floor if he had not been suckered into believing the lie in the first place. He even said his staff tried to tell him what was going on but he chose to believe McConnell.

I like Cruz and supported him in the beginning but he is just not ready to do the heavy lifting that needs to be done. He is too trusting and too green at this point.
