The problem is that indoor tanning is a "known contributor to skin cancer," the agency said. They don't WANT to know if abortion is a contributing factor in cancer.

Aside from all the laudable arguments against Nanny Statism being made here, I propose a very simple solution: get your kids' soft, pasty little asses away from the keyboard and make them explore SUNSHINE. You know, get a tan the old fashioned way?

While they are at it, I plead for the nanny state to impose a federal ban on tattoos and piercings on minors too. Make it a felony and retroactive. I understand there is no problem with ex post facto punishment, using the logic the courts applied to uphold the Lautenberg amendment.

So, does that mean that tanning beds that are not inside a building are OK?

Yes, we know what happens when children hit the tanning booth a little too often!

I haven’t seen the study, but I have to wonder if they ever considered that fair-skinned people are more likely to use tanning booths and that fair-skinned people are more at risk for melanoma than the general population...

You’ve won the thread, topic over.

But minors spend most of day underground and do not get much sun, so tanning bed is their only way to avoid looking like Casper.

So, forcing them to turn to the sun for a horrible sunburn is better?

Just ban that too, and have a federal sun-exposure enfrocement agency - adding jobs to the economy!
