I sincerely hope anyone reading this has changed in significant ways-—
After 16 years.

Just sayin’

What is the correct position? That he does not “intend” to support legalization.

That's just Cruz being colloquial. For instance, Joe Palooka might say: "I haven't spoiled my kids in the past and I don't intend to spoil them in the future".

Yes, in 1999, when he was an EMPLOYEE of another politician, he expressed a different position, because that is the position his EMPLOYER wanted to take.

The policy memo is unfortunate in many levels. It was a product for GOP candidate George Bush. It is more a issue with the GOP than with Ted Cruz.

For the life of me I don't understand how people can continue to support a party like the GOP. The importance in this document isn't the concerns of the average US citizen. But in expanding h1b visa hires, uplifting the middle class of Mexico, expanding the guest worker program here and the education programs of illegal immigrant children.

Lots of people from the Bush administration could have had access to this document...I wouldn’t automatically assume GWBush released it.

Actually, we’re just fine with this, since it really doesn’t reveal any problem for Cruz. Can’t say the same for Trump quotes from that time period.

As a debater, Cruz is used to making the best case either for or against the position regardless of his views. He was working for Bush and making the best case for Bush's position.

These puny humans are really desperate to diminish Cruz.

While this is pure unadulterated Bull Shiite going about to 1999, this is an example of “the treatment” all Republicans get from the media. Only Trump is big enough to fight it off successfully. Cruz is just not no matter how his supporters wish it were not so.

He was a policy adviser. He wasn’t a secretary for crying out loud.

It is ironic that springwater13 wants to focus on Cruz’s views well over a decade ago, even before 9/11, and yet we have no way of knowing what springwater13’s views were just a year ago.

Anyone this late to joining Free Republic must be viewed with suspicion because either they did not see the light until years of enduring Obama, or they are too young to know much yet, or they are fake conservatives.

Cruz is a human being and thus imperfect, but he is the most across-the-board conservative in the presidential race. My suspicions are multiplied toward those who are attacking his credentials.

The Slimes still cannot find any info on Hussein from the 16 years before he tried to seize power....but a 1999 memo is relevant to them?

Yes. I was being sarcastic. I think Cruz was 18 or so in 1989 and what he thought then matters as much as to me now as what he thought in 1999. The point to me is that Rubio, Bush and most other GOPErs were for amnesty earlier this year, so why try to disparage Cruz with stuff he may or may not have said almost 20 years ago? I think it is just standard GOPE bs.
