What Bloomberg's not doing, however, is winning on a national level, which is why he's been forced to fight stop-gap fights on the state level

He doesn't have to win on a national level if he can get most of the States to implement background checks on private sales. So far, he's not doing too bad.

We'd better not start patting ourselves on the back just yet - wait and see if his initiatives in NV and AZ pass - as I suspect they will. Our side should counter-push for a call-in background check only, no 4473s involved.

They might try, but the genius of the founding fathers is that people can look at how successful those measures are in the places they’ve been implemented.

And aside from the “Surrounding areas” excuse, they won’t be able to show much success.

I do find that idea of ‘call-in background check only’ very intriguing and something on which I would like some more information if available.

As many have pointed out - if a background check is supposed to be about the purchaser, WHY do they need to know about the gun?
