Flash: All Los Angeles Public Schools Closed Due to Terror Threat

The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) announced Tuesday morning that all of its schools will be closed for the day due to a terror threat. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that a bomb threat was called in to a school board member, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The announcement by Superintendent Roberto Martinez came in the middle of the morning commute, at about 7:00 a.m., as many area children were boarding buses or already walking to school.

Parents who had already dropped their children off were asked to return and to fetch their children at approved locations.

The LAPD told members of the media that the police had received a threat “that mentions the safety of our schools.” The threat is “still being analyzed,” but was made directly to the LAUSD, and not to other school districts, police said.

This has been widely reported and is being used as cover by some kid who called in a bomb threat to get out of taking mid-year exam. Like I posted earlier, Islamic’s do not call in threats in advance

I heard poor little Muslims pissing, and moaning again last night about being picked on. I believe its time to bring back...”Bush’s Fault” and update it with Trumps Fault.
Go Trump

This is scary on so many levels.

First, we can’t trust the president to be on top of this... we can’t even trust him not to hamper the efforts of the FBI and other departments to protect us.

Second, the thought that ISIS and Muslim fanatics can paralyze institutions by making threats to the point that real threats may start to be ignored.

We need aggressive action against these people and we won’t get it with Obama.

We all know schools are soft targets. IMHO this is a dry run. Reason: to observe reactions of LE, school officials, communications and procedures. Terrorists usually don’t give warnings. Is this a learning experience, you bet. Learn to evaluate threats for believeabiliy. And to shore up weak areas in reaction time and procedure, chain of command, etc. I think the school district pretty much had to take the steps they did. It can be a logistic nightmare.

In this lawsuit giddy community, if there were an attack with any kind of a warning like this, then these administrators are toast. They had to shut down.

What a country. So, now, a “threat” causes closure. What if a terrorist does this in every city...or every shopping mall? This society needs to grow a pair.

Oh I agree. Listening to KFI station out of LA and a bus driver call in and the procedure is to complete the child pick ups. Then report to an open area back on the school campus. Open area, all the kids crowded together, all sitting ducks. Drive by shootings/bombing heaven. I understand the authorities have to take action, but my question is what is the best procedure in situations like this. Are the current procedures appropriate for terror threats? How does Israel handle this?

I don’t know the answer to either of these. When Mark passed it on, I don’t believe he knew what kind of electronic threat it was.

There was a cell of terrorists that tried to use crockpots at an earlier Boston marathon. But by the time the slow cookers had finished, the race was over and everyone had gone home.

;)

I heard that too and thought the same thing you did. Idiots. Putting the kids in an open field, away from buildings, makes them sitting ducks.

My boy in elementary school is pretty safe. I think his school was built in the late 90s and you cannot see the playground from the roads or parking lots. It’s backed into residential hills so I guess you could still go through private property but just as a target it wouldn’t be chosen where there are so many older schools with playgrounds and chain link fences right beside roads.

But don’t get me started about my daughter at her Jewish preschool,.... That wakes me up at night. But it’s a fantastic school and she loooooves it.
They do have one armed guard but you can see exactly where he is. So I don’t consider him foolproof defense.

The answer is to follow the law.

This law:

https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/10/311

All able bodied citizens 17-62 ARE IN THE MILITIA whether they want to be or not. They should all be well regulated (trained is regulated, with FedGov range time) and all carrying, all the time. We live in a different time and we better get used to it.

Our lives will be SHUT DOWN and freaked out if terrorists take out one Walmart in St Paul, a Target in SoCal, a Costco in Albuquereque and a Home Depot in Connecticut.

Or one elementary school anywhere.

If you are still listening, Bill Carroll just said what you and I were thinking -— how stupid is it that the teachers and bus drivers are to take the kids to be grouped all together in an open area. He said we need better plans than this.

I fear these decision makers went to LA Unified. I know I did so I know of what I speak. At least my school won a lot of those genius decathalons...
