Following his proposal to temporarily bar Muslims from entering the country, Donald Trump has increased his lead in the Republican primary to its largest margin yet, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.
The results are the latest sign that Trump's outspoken comments on immigration and terrorism continue to find an audience among rank-and-file Republicans in spite of sharp condemnation from Democrats, GOP leaders, some of Trump's rivals and a chorus of world leaders.
The survey puts Trump's support at 38 percent among registered Republicans and GOP-leaning independents, six points higher than in October and November. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, who also is running an anti-establishment campaign, has surged into second place with 15 percent, effectively doubling his support since last month.
Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida and Ben Carson are tied for third, with 12 percent each. Carson, who with Trump was at the top of the field earlier this fall, saw his support cut roughly in half over the past month. No other candidate in the new poll registers in double digits. Former Florida governor Jeb Bush stands at 5 percent among registered Republicans.

He said temporarily? I thought he said permanent. Damn, guess I need to find another candidate.
Ping!
wait til the comments of ethanol, maniac and Scalia get processed into these polls, and tonights’ debate.
Care to wager which way we go from here?
UP UP UP!
blitzer and crew will be happy if Trump pulls a gun and shoots someone, and they don't care who it will be.
I will DVR the debate and watch a few critiques, and if I then choose to go deeper into it I will be able to do it, if not, delete.
If Cruz and Trump rough up Rubio tonight they’ll both be sitting very pretty.
I like Trump, but I also like Cruz and Scalia.
Trump needs to think before he speaks, in some cases.
The comments about ethanol will hurt Cruz in Iowa and will have no impact anywhere else. Scalia is a non issue. And Maniac will stick to Cruz like low energy stuck to Jeb.
Yep, 38% here, and 41% on CNN. The Iowa poll showing Cruz surge seems rather unsupported, except to establish a media narrative. It is all Trump’s show. Looking forward to tonight.
The Media is pulling out ALL of the stops now to try and destroy Trump.
No insult, and no accusation is now too outrageous, if they think it could help drive Trump Negatives.
My real question is, WHO is driving this?
Agreed. Cruz is a maniac, a martyr, not a winner. Beyond his core fanatical support, he’s got zero traction and I don’t see that changing.
Your opinion has been wrong every step of the way, so far. What makes you think you are right this time?
Trump has virtually marinated, seasoned, baked and gobbled up every Republican candidate, swallowed them whole and digested them thoroughly, like delicious appetizers.
They’re gone and done, for all intents and purposes.
But now we need to see the main course ...he needs to roast, season and put the Beast on the spit ... let the heat rise and let the juices drip. Then we need to see him dig in, pull off the most succulent pieces ...and chew and chew thoroughly — until IT (the Beast) is also dissolved and digested so completely, IT/she never returns again to further torment this country.
I am waiting. Waiting patiently for this main course.
The Compost composting....and getting heated up.
Can we just back our preferred candidates without the need to call the other candidates the anti christ who just escaped from an insane asylum?
I like both Cruz and Trump, neither are perfect, but BOTH are heads and shoulders above the rest of the politicians in Washington.
Trump. Is. A. Democrat.
The American people know that the only way they are going to be safe is if we get control of our borders and immigration. Obama’s way, appeasing terrorists, increasing the size of already bloated security agencies, and infringing our our freedoms and way of life, doesn’t work, and is not what people want.
Just a hunch....
Well, from what I understand he has had a past with them, that makes me wonder some.
