In a letter sent on November 25, 2015, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) urged Colorado College, a private institution, to honor its moral and contractual obligation to keep the promises of freedom of expression that it makes to students. Colorado Collegeâs Student Guide, The Pathfinder, provides that âall members of the college community have such basic rights as freedom of speechâ¦.ââColorado Collegeâs disciplinary action toward Pryorâa 21 month suspensionâfor posting what was intended to be a joke on social media completely contradicts the schoolâs promises of freedom of speech,â said FIRE Senior Program Officer Ari Cohn. âThe collegeâs punitive and heavy-handed overreaction to Pryorâs social media post will have a chilling effect on campus discourse.â
Although Colorado College is private, and not legally bound by the First Amendment, it has repeatedly stated its commitment to freedom of expression. Yet Colorado College receives FIREâs poorest, âred lightâ rating for its speech codes.

Maybe he prefers Amy Schumer
That’s a “he?!” Sure doesn’t look like one.
It’s a private college. Wouldn’t his case depend on the terms of the contract/agreement he signed?
The âentire situationâ on Yik Yak Nov. 9 actually began with crass comments targeting white students, calling them âdirty hippies with small d****â who are âalways f***ing their cousins,â then moving on to mocking Muslims and even âSmurfs,â Pryor wrote.
OK that post should have a strong WARNING attached.
Open link at own risk!!
I hope this student, with a good lawyer, cleans this college’s clock. If saying something is “not hot” is hate speech, then the bottom line is the college as judge and jury is saying students must remain mute and say nothing ever.
Liberal college not so liberal.
Why would you want to attend a school like that?
I don’t mean to be indelicate but if he went into detail he’d be banned for life.
Colorado College grads are now on my “do not hire/do not recommend” list.
Blacks have rhythm is racist?
My point is that it’s anonymous. There would be no way to know who wrote any of it unless someone saw you do it and reported you. Yik-Yak is composed of college kids saying things they’d never say in real life.
Black Men can't do math.
Which one matters more in an advanced technological society?
[Ask the Yellow Men. They can do math, too.]
Where does she fit in?
Her name is Melissa Harris-Perry.
In the context of this discussion, black... black as coal, black as sin, blacker that a midnight steer's tookus on a moonless prairie night
Iâm suprised they didnt order him jailed or put him in a psych unit
It’s in the near future.
If I were in that school I wouldn’t last a day.
