Except that it wasn't. He also didn't say anything remotely approaching this statement: but he goes so far here as to say that if you think Trump's a "genuine conservative," which apparently some people do, this should probably cure you of that notion.

He asked a Trump supporter who called in if he thought a genuine conservative would attack a fellow conservative with the line the Senate RINO's have consistently used against Cruz. The caller's reply was classic Trump Kool-Aid: "Well Rush, he has to do whatever his strategy is." OK. So Cruz is responsible for his remarks, but Trump gets a pass, because The Donald® just has to do whatever "his strategy is."

Rush most certainly didn't come down on either side. He was puzzled that Trump would criticize Cruz with the same general take that the media has used against Trump himself and he was just asking a caller some questions.
