Whoa! This is the highest Trump has ever been in the Real Clear Politics average—and this poll was the first one on RCP done entirely after the huge negative media barrage that followed his Muslim entry ban proposal.

Iowa and a national poll are two different things and it is not incorrect that the two polls can be different.

Cristie is number 3 in NH, but at the bottom in Iowa. He is making much more of an effort in NH, so it makes sense he is polling better in NH.

There have been millions of dollars of ads purchased in Iowa. In Virginia, I have seen zero ads. The candidates are all over Iowa, but not in Virginia - so yes, I would expect a national poll and an Iowa poll to be different.

Frankly, I think there may be a dark horse in that race. Trump is not appealing to the Evangelicals simply because, as much as he tries to impugn Cruz’ Evangelical status and imply that he’s secretly a Catholic from Cuba, Trump has a virtually non-existent Evangelical church record. Being a Presbyterian by birth (his parents were immigrants from Scotland) does not make him an Evangelical.

I think Iowa may vote for Cruz, but he is a little hard to like. Personally, the one I can’t like at all is Trump, who is insulting, crude and disgusting. But Cruz comes across as so principaled and firm and almost hostile that I think he scares some voters. However, they still might vote for him.

That said, I bet that the next debates are going to see some new candidate surge to the top. I guess that’s why they call it a horse-race...

What a dumb statement - then add ignorant to your comment. I'm not a Rubio supporter, but I think bizarre and other worldly comment like yours indicate a colossal lack of intellect or a spiteful hack. My guess is you support Trump.

It’s not that Iowa and the national polls are different, it’s that this poll and the poll showing Cruz up by 10 were so far different than other similar polls from the same timeframe. Sometimes polls are just outliers. Sometimes there are sampling issues. Other times, some polls catch a trend quicker than others.

In a few days, we will be able to see which it is in this case.

I have heard on EVERY SINGLE news station today that Hillary would beat Trump and Cruz but, Rubio would beat Hillary if elections were held today.

And you will continue to her that. The media still thinks they can pick our candidate.

They will be handed their asses this time.

At the beginning of every rally, he points to the media in the back of the room and calls them scum and liars. Just the other day he called out Katy Tur of MSNBC and said she lied about him (she did).

They won't even pan the room with cameras to show the size of the crowds.

I think Joe Scarborough and Mika have begrudingly come to like Trump, but that's it.

BTW, all the candidates have been invited to call in to the various panel-styled shows and they won't do it (the Q & A's can be pretty tough).

This election isn’t all about electing the nice guy and Trump does get a good share of evangelical voters who understand the dangers to this nation. Cruz is still the underdog in Iowa. If Cruz wins in Iowa, it’s going to be a squeaker for him.

Rove,

Please tell us again how a Trump Presidency destroy the Republican Party as we know it. That message still is not getting out there, clearly [or his polling numbers would be even higher].

Trump can beat Hillary and he's the ONLY one who CAN best her.

He knows how to push her buttons and won't "debate" her like a lawyer or a college debater.

What will his polls say when he loses in Iowa?

It will be interesting to see him when that happens.

I don’t support any of the candidates. I don’t care who wins, as it is the Congress that can affect change—and they will never change.

The President will be a speaker with a bully pulpit. I can see several candidates who might be good, a whole bunch that won’t be good.

I cannot really generate any interest in any of them beyond being prurient observer.
