i just wish we could give up on the word, “homeland.” It’s sounds like such a globalist term - intent on removing the thought of borders. What is wrong with Country?

Homeland reminds me of Fatherland and that has an evil smell to it.

I would give Poland a pass because they have been wiped off the map in the past--they did not exist as a country between 1778 and 1919--so they have a right to talk about "homeland". They live in a rough neighborhood.
