A Russian destroyer had to open warning fire as a Turkish fishing vessel sailed on a collision course towards them and didn't respond to calls from the warship, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.
Following the incident, the Russian Defense Ministry warned the Turkish military attaché about "the possible harmful consequences of the reckless actions by Ankara against the Russian military contingent, involved in tackling international terrorism in Syria."
"Deep concerns were voiced over another provocative action by the Turkish side against the Russian patrol ship Smetlivy in the Aegean Sea, which forced them to open warning fire...in order to avoid a collision with the Turkish vessel," the ministry said in a statement.
The warning shots came from small arms and were strategically aimed to guarantee the Turkish ship was out of harm's way, the statement stressed.
The incident happened in the northern part of the Aegean Sea some 12 nautical miles from the Greek island of Lemnos, the ministry said.

Could you imagine what would be going through one of our commanders faced with a similar decision? Consider the crap those guys got after the pirate attack a few years ago. Lay on the Benghazi episode, add in the possible environment damage and bake that all in. The timeline would be over a week at least before “permission” to fire came and by then they would be MIA.
Do you have the pic of her coming home on the flatbed?
The lives of the crew members and the safety of the ship, the weight of those responsibilities must be a crushing burden for a Captain these days.
"RT [Russia Today] has been called a propaganda outlet for the Russian government[10][11][12] and its foreign policy[10][11][13][14] by former Russian officials[15] and by news reporters,[16] including former RT reporters.[17][18][19]
It has also been accused of spreading disinformation.[20][21][22]
The United Kingdom media regulator Ofcom has threatened RT with sanctions because of repeated violations of its rules on impartiality.[23]
The network states that it offers a 'Russian perspective' on global events.[24]"

Vladimir Putin's media Svengali who was found dead in DC hotel was 'murdered for being an FBI informant'
"Nicknamed the 'Bulldozer', Lesin was one of the key props of the Putin presidency, personally masterminding a wide-ranging media crackdown which has left the vast majority of Russian TV stations and newspapers obedient to the Kremlin."

I’d say the Rooski captain made the right call.
NYT, MSNBC, CNN, et al, have also been called propaganda outlets as well (by me among others).
I listen to the foreign broadcasts knowing full well they do have at least an element of propaganda, but they do often give an interesting perspective.
The bottom line is, their propaganda is not more blatant than our own.
Russia - take back Constantinople.
Russia—sore loser over being defeated by low oil prices—is acting like a raccoon in a china closet.
Yup, keep in mind, the only difference between ISIS and Russia, is that Russia has massacred more people, and taken over more of other countries land. ISIS are pikers compared to Putin.
Two terrorist organizations going at it...pass the popcorn.
I hope you still have those exit visas.
Very valuable as family mementos.
The most I can come up with are some tax bills from the 1850s.
My family basically snuck out of Scotland and showed the crown their backsides on the way out.
They hit the Virginia coast and moved inland as quickly as possible to avoid the kings tax collectors.
