Ted Cruz has opened up a firm lead over rival Donald Trump in first-in-the-nation state Iowa, 31 to 21, according to a new Bloomberg Politics/Des Moines Register poll released Saturday.
The poll is closely watched by political analysts who consider it a reliable measure of Iowa caucus voters.....
Cruz's ascension represents the largest spike for one candidate between Des Moines Register polls in at least the last five presidential elections.
Though fifth overall, Jeb Bush records the highest negative ratings in the poll, with 54 percent of likely Caucus-goers disapproving of him....

You said 70% were not in Trumps camp. Using that logic what percentage are not in Cruz’s camp?
“Cruz’s ascension represents the largest spike for one candidate between Des Moines Register polls in at least the last five presidential elections.”
This is enough to make the poll results suspect, imo.
Another thought. Because there is such strong evidence Americans have turned anti establishment and want an outsider this time the Left would like to remove the one outsider who seems to have a chance. If successful they can paint Cruz as simply another “inside the beltway” pol (just like Clinton).
Personally I believe this is nothing but an attempt to discourage Trump voters and play on the natural desire for folks to be on the winning side which according to this poll is now Cruz. The fact stories began appearing a few days ago about the accuracy and grand history of this particular pollster are to me nothing more than the laying of the groundwork to give this pollster credibility before the results were released.
These are strictly my opinions and I have to believe the candidates do their own polling as well. None of them to date have mentioned this so for now all we have is this one outlier poll (relative to all other polling) and we will simply have to wait and see.
That must be wrong, exit82 on the live thread said it was supposed to start at 7:30pm eastern. Freepers were there.

Reviewing her extensive twitter feed of the rally, that empty section was videoed at 4:41 and Trump took the stage at 5:11.
I adjusted the time on the C-SPAN video as it states that it is Pacific time.
Good point. The media is so obsessed with filling the news-void with their anybody-but-Trump pablum.
My only concern is it will damage Ted who could suffer what Carson experienced.
It is also worth noting that polls have been terribly off of late in many cases. Look at Bevin’s election to governor in KY. The polls were off by 10 points or so, said the Democrat would win.
There seems to be something causing a breakdown in polling methodologies. Whether that is because of cell phones, the rise of the TEA Party, whatever, things seem more unpredictable.

The firm definitely caught his surge. It was a 4 day rolling poll and she had Santorum at 20+% just looking at the last 2 days.
This is at least the second such poll:

He may have, was two days before released and he was picking at Cruz in Iowa on Friday.
Yes, Cruz impressive with the temperament, working with congress etc. So relieved it finally seems some voters are considering Trump’s use of words. 11% for Trump on temperament.
I didn’t realize Trump had banned the newspaper. Is that Nixonian or Obamian?
I admire CW’s courage in truth telling. Many FReepers are hiding their thoughts as they don’t want to suffer trumpees verbal abuse.
Between Tuesday's debate and Feb 1 is Christmas, New Year's and the NFL play-offs. I don't imagine much change in the polls.
Fair enough but are there others out there with different results? My post was as I said just an opinion. Ithink we all can agree the unrelenting majority of NON Trump fans outside the party, such as the liberal media and pollsters in general would seek to slow and reverse the momentum of Trump. What better way to do this than do as they tried to do in the recent Kentucky election (Bevin vs Conway) where the pollsters had the Democrat ahead right up until the day of the election. As we know the Republican won by a 10 point margin. Those are landslide numbers.
What trust more than polls is what my neighbors and friends say. I also would like to repeat I am not a “Trump or bust” guy and would vote for whomever is the nominee.
That said I prefer Trump but Cruz is a super close second and ideally I would like to see both on the ticket in no particular order.
‘Trump draws support from... left...’
Hmmmm.. not sure I buy that....
Evidence?
Yet another useless “poll”, everybody wants to get in the act.
Good morning.
“Des Moines Register poll “
That rag hates Trump and all Republicans.

Great graph. Shows exactly where the Docs supporters went. I guess Yeb’s supporters went on over to Her Thighness’s camp. That would be my suspicion anyway.
