When I mentioned "gun free" zones to my wife, she quipped, "what kind of guns are they getting free". It was intended as a sarcastic double entendre remark. In fitting fashion, we were on the way to lunch and a visit to the indoor range in Idaho Falls. I suspect there is a lot of trash floating around. My local FFL provided me a "project gun". It's a 9mm that is non-functional until it gets some TLC and replacement parts. The parts and labor exceed what he could recover if he sold it. I can do the repairs and parts are still available. It falls in the realm of the Raven/Lorcin grade of firearm. A good 38SPL revolver is a bunch more reliable.

My local shops are putting out boxes of .22LR again. We had a nice day at the range.

I figured as much, but I wanted to post about Gunwalker and the sort of ghetto junk that is out there. That isn't saying they don't have some Glock .40s out there, but there are a lot of low end guns.

Sounds like y'all had fun.

We did. We had an annual membership at a range in San Diego. It was well used. We each shot about 400 rds of 38SPL each week. After moving to Idaho in 2000, there was only the outdoor range. It's a very windy location. We love it for 100 yard rifle use, but not so much for handguns. A new range opened this year in Idaho Falls. 16 lanes of 25 yards with backstops capable of 50 BMG. We have an annual membership going again. It's 53 miles one-way, but we go there on weekends to shop anyway. The great backstop means I can take anything I want up there to test fire and sight in. We aren't shooting 400 rds each a week, but still having lots of fun and regaining proficiency that was lost in the "off" years since the move.

Last month we were on the static side and the range officer seemed a bit excited. He pointed out a person on the sales floor. It was Chris Barrett, owner of Barrett rifles. He was hunting in Idaho and wanted to visit the new range. His products can be used in there (unlike most indoor ranges with lesser backstops).

And, a least for a while, it was a nuclear free zone. That had the Kremlin intimidated. /s
