Here is white privilege in a nutshell: My brothers, sisters and I all had one father. He lived in our house and was faithful to my mother until the day she died.
Blacks need to acquire that privilege, too.
May I change/expand your wording? Rather than “own up to it,” I would say it is time for others to “accept it,” along with we who take good behavior for granted.
Also, I believe that it is not an “acquired privilege,” it is an earned privilege. Indeed, blacks need to earn the privilege too.
You and I had exactly the same experience growing up. Stable home environments produce “privileged” sons and daughters.
I had no father—— he died when we were pre-schoolers.
White privilege kept food on the table because my mother worked FULL TIME. (Aunts babysat when needed)
White privilege made us do well in school.
White privilege kept us out of jail.
White privilege made us earn our way through college.
White privilege then led us right into the middle class.
I should feel guilty about that? Not a chance.
