Ban guns. All guns. Get rid of guns in homes, and on the streets, and, as much as possible, on police. Not just because of San Bernardino, or whichever mass shooting may pop up next, but also not not because of those. Don't sort the population into those who might do something evil or foolish or self-destructive with a gun and those who surely will not. As if this could be known, as if it could be assessed without massively violating civil liberties and stigmatizing the mentally ill. Ban guns!

Too bad, the govt taught me to shoot very well at 17. Spent 19 months going everywhere armed with a full magazine in the rifle.

Some habits are impossible to kick. You want to disarm me, come and do it the way you would have had to 45 years ago.

There are close to 300 million firearms in the USA. Let's assume an average fair market value of between $200 to $400 per firearm. That would be $60,000,000,000 to $120,000,000,000. I am sure that the US Treasury can fund that without raising taxes or cutting any social service programs. (/sarcasm) Oh you mean just take them without paying for them? Hmm concentrated in about a third of the homes in the country some armed better than the police? What could possible go wrong.

There are a few thing in our current culture we can et do without. Automobiles, cell phones and computers come to mind. They all cause untold misery to millions.

Everyone is entitled to her opinion, Phoebe.

But you may carrying the abuse of the Federal ADA t just a tad too far.

Nothing gives a person a greater sense of responsibility; or a greater reverence for life, than knowing that you have close at hand, the tools and ability to utterly destroy that life.
I have been armed since 12 years old; in 1968 I was given a military upgrade in arms and ability, in 1973 I relinquished that up grade and went back to the arms I carried as a child, with the occasional legal upgrade I purchased as an adult.
I will not surrender willingly those arms or abilities I worked so hard to earn.
I have never killed anyone or anything I did not intend to kill; for either defense, or to put food on the table.

If they can assure me 100% that they have removed all the guns from the criminals and then the government and THEN from all the other governments the the people overseas who hate us.... and GUARANTEE ME THAT THE ABOVE GROUPS ARE 100% DISARMED AND WILL REMAIN SO.
