Donald J. Trump occupies his strongest position yet in the race for the Republican presidential nomination, yet nearly two-thirds of American voters say they are concerned or frightened about the prospect of a Trump presidency, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News nationwide poll.

Mr. Trump commands the support of 35 percent of Republican primary voters, leading his closest competitors, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas (16 percent) and Ben Carson (13 percent) by a more than 2-to-1 margin. While Mr. Carson's support was cut in half since the last time The Times and CBS News polled on the race in late October, Mr. Cruz has quadrupled his share. Senator Marco Rubio of Florida's support stands at 9 percent, with the rest of the candidates at 4 percent or less.

Believe it or not, they actually did ask that question, and get this — they say the result for Hillary was only “marginally” different than for Trump. 57 percent found the thought of a Hillary presidency concerning or scary versus 64 percent for him. It’s gotta be killing them to write this stuff.

These 35% people are those not afraid of being politically incorrect. There are many others who will give him their support in the voting booth. The Democrat media will have a melt down.

It IS common sense. Yet so many are unwilling to embrace it because of the weoponized empathy called political correctness.

A lot of people find it difficult to go against the edicts of PC, and a lot of these people are those who should know better. Standing against the edicts of the left and their Alinsky tactics makes you a target and a lot of people are unwilling to deal with being called racist.

It's one of many reasons I like what Trump is doing.

Many democrats will crossover and vote Trump. There are polls showing this.

The liberals and RINOs are all “concerned” about Republican chances if Trump wins the nomination, unlike with Dole, McCain and Romney.

Thanks. That’s interesting. I know I’m concerned and frightened of the prospect of Hillary being president. She would probably turn out to be 0bama on steroids.

It will be a landslide like Reagan. The elite and the media are used to the elections playing out like a script where they play gotcha and eventually get a soundbite they can use to take out the undesirable candidates.

Trump is playing his own game, they have no idea what is happening because all they can do is get upset at him not playing by the rules. Its like the patriots refusing to line up in battle for the redcoats to mow them down!

Last NYT poll in October had Ted Cruz at 4% which I thought was an aberration. Cruz as essentially quadrupled his share of the poll in short order.

She would probably turn out to be 0bama on steroids.

She would not rule from scratch, she'd be accelerating what 0' started. She'd take a win as vindication that marxism is the future here. She'd take a win as vindication that her stint at SOS and Benghazi was just AOK, emailgate, and the hundreds of other 'gates.

two-thirds of the Republican party will never vote for Trump.

The polls prove you wrong. In head-to-head match-ups with Hillary, Trump wins in the Fox News and Morning Consult polls. Even in most of the polls that show him losing to Hillary, it's typically not by much (often within the margin of error). You can't just make up things and then claim them as facts.

“The cowards were outmaneuvered and will have to fight for 35% of likely voters among themselves. They are finished.”

On illegal immigration, Trump identified a gap in political thinking (We’re going to build a wall and deport illegals) and filled it. By doing so, he gained the voters who’ve been waiting for someone to represent their views. He’s done the same on muslim immigration.

It’s a brilliant strategy. He can do it over and over and the Left will never be able to prepare for it. They are used to setting the narrative, inundating the masses with their message and marginalizing/mocking outliers into irrelevance. They simply cannot get their heads around the idea that MILLIONS of people aren’t believing how they’re told to believe anymore.

This, over and above anything else, is the best reason to vote for Trump.
