"We are not a nation of immigrants. We are a nation of citizens." Mark Levin
Immigration is not good for America. At least, not anymore. Immigration has benefitted our nation a great deal and it certainly can do so again, but as long as our current rules are in place, immigration can only hurt our country.
Whether your ancestors came over on the Mayflower or you became a citizen yesterday, an American is an American is an American.
However, even though that's true, the presumption of our immigration laws seems to be that any person, from any culture, of any educational status, from any country is just as likely to come to America, fit in and become a productive citizen.
That idea is ridiculous on its face.
The whole idea that it doesn't matter whether we bring in large numbers of uneducated people from socialistic countries with backward cultures where they don't speak English or large numbers of highly educated people from capitalistic countries with Western cultures that speak English makes no sense. Yes, there are always exceptions to the rule, but unquestionably members of one group are much more likely to fit in, assimilate and add to the tax base than the other group.
Worse yet, Americaâs immigration system is family-based instead of merit-based. How does it make America better for us to favor someone's uneducated Grandpa from a Third World nation over a rocket scientist in his late twenties from Israel or Australia just because Grandpa has a relative in the United States?
Furthermore, why would we want to bring ANYBODY to the United States who can't pay his own way and add to the tax base? Did you know that 62% of illegal alien households are using some form of welfare? How can they do this when they're not citizens? Easy. They have a kid here and then suddenly they're eligible for all sorts of benefits. How would it make America better to allow illegal aliens who pay no income tax and take government benefits to stay in our country? Of course, it doesn't.
Perhaps even more disturbingly, the problem is nearly as bad with LEGAL IMMIGRANTS.
An estimated 49 percent of households headed by legal immigrants used one or more welfare programs in 2012, compared to 30 percent of households headed by natives.
Households headed by legal immigrants have higher use rates than native households overall and for cash programs (14 percent vs. 10 percent), food programs (36 percent vs. 22 percent), and Medicaid (39 percent vs. 23 percent). Use of housing programs is similar.
...Of households headed by legal immigrants without a high school diploma, 75 percent use one or more welfare programs, as do 64 percent of households headed by legal immigrants with only a high school education. Less-educated legal immigrants make extensive use of every type of welfare program, including cash, food, Medicaid, and housing.
Conservatives believe the primary purpose of immigration should be to benefit the people who are already here. It's hard to see how making someone a citizen who later becomes dependent on food stamps and Medicaid benefits the American people.
Getting beyond that, a lot of Americans have very legitimate concerns about assimilation, the massive amount of crime committed by illegal immigrants, and whether our government can properly vet immigrants. Additionally, given what's happening, we should all be worried about American citizens losing out on jobs. Right now, the workforce participation rate in America is 62.6 percent, which is the lowest that number has been in 38 years. America DESPERATELY needs to focus on getting those Americans back to work instead of bringing new immigrants to take those jobs or alternately get on welfare themselves.
After all, it's not as if the United States hasn't already done our share when it comes to taking in immigrants. Currently, we have an all-time record population of 41.3 million foreign-born citizens. That's an enormous increase,
"The 41.3 million immigrant population (legal and illegal) in 2013 was double the number in 1990, nearly triple the number in 1980, and quadruple that in 1970, when it stood at 9.6 million."
Given how many Americans are out of work, how many immigrants are on some form of government assistance and how poor our vetting system is, doesn't it make sense to halt the flood of immigration into our country for a few years?
That would give us time to get more Americans hired, fix our vetting process, secure the border and set up a merit-based immigration system that would assure we're consistently getting the cream of the crop instead of bringing people here to take advantage of our welfare system.
Immigration has been a tremendous boon to America in times past and it can be again, but under our current system immigration can only make America weaker.
National Security
—exactly what I have stated to my elected rep’s—we don’t need any more here —period.
I heard that Morning Joe tried to take out Trump today on the immigration issue. Did anyone watch?
First of all, no non-citizen on Earth has a RIGHT to enter the United States under any circumstances. WE DECIDE WHO COMES HERE!
Secondly, this is a very serious issue and I’m tired of supposed “conservatives” not demanding the left explain why it is they believe every human on the planet has some alleged “right” to enter our Nation.
And lastly, American’s are faced with a simple choice. Take the chance of being called names by Liberals such as “bigot” and “xenophobe” or risk watching their loved ones leap from skyscrapers. Those are the options on the table.
The people of the United States of America DO NOT HAVE TO LIVE WITH TERRORISM simply because Liberals think it’s good for us!
But he was too close to the muslim rulers in Saudia Arabia and wasted his time pushing the laughable concept of Islam as the religion of peace.
And where did that concept come from right after 9/11 anyway?
Who gave him those talking points?
Who planted that ridiculous notion in his head?
Who thought it would be a good idea for the American President to deify the enemies of America when they had just slaughtered 3,000 on US soil?
What we do need to do stop importing undesirable people and putting them on the government welfare system.
Lots of Somali would be Jihadi living on the taxpayer dime who need to go back home.
What the hell were we we thinking when we brought these scum bags into the country anyway.
America needs to wise up and stop importing the psychopathic Jihadi losers who are on the losing end of a civil war they started and were perpetuating just so they can come here and bring the Jihad to us.
We are importing Trojan Horses who are tens of thousands of potential :”Lone Wolf” Jihadi.
I honestly do not believe Trump needed to go as far as the ban all muslims speech. He could have achieved tha same result with less aggravation by restricting islamic immigration to the confines of Baltimore. After a few weeks in that Black Lives Matter paradise they would be screaming no mas and fleeing back to the hellholes from which they came and telling their friends not to bother.
US needs both immigration and welfare reforms. How many immigrants come here relying on the welfare system for support? Put a limit on what is immediately available and a time limit on receiving benefits in the future. This would push us back to the original immigration rules where trades, sponsors and responsibility were the norm. How many Americans would be for mass immigration or amnesty knowing that each new immigrant has the potential to cancel their vote, take resources originally allocated for them, and collectively destroy our legal and economic systems? I tend to think this is what Obama meant when he said he would fundamentally change America and that invasion by immigration, legal or otherwise, is an intricate part of his plan.
As usual he put his foot in his mouth again.
Idiots usually say “We are a nation of immigrants”
We are not. Many of us are descended from immigrants, but are not immigrants.

I don’t know which part of your post deserves the most attention.
Trump went too far??
Restricting islamic immigration to the confines of Baltimore?? Letting BLM deal with the islamic immigrants?? (You do realize blacks are converting to islam, and becoming radicalized, in record numbers....don’t you???)
Geez.
Yes, Trump’s taking the left’s gun grabbing rhetoric completely off of the front burner, and putting the jihadi enablers (left/MSM/GOPee, etc) on the hot seat went way too far.
Not.
Trump is already leading the country and it’s driving the the above mentioned (and some here on FR) nuts.
“Trump is already leading the country and itâs driving the the above mentioned (and some here on FR) nuts.”
“the the”? Have to dismiss your whole point because of a stupid typo. After all, that’s what you do. People who live in glass houses...
Only when you’re slamming another FReeper, does it count.
Sorry. Fail for you....again :)
How do you propose we distinguish the good folk from the undesirables? Can’t do it. It’s either all or nothing. It’s not rocket science to check the Christian box on the visa form and lie to the infidel rubber stamp ICE worker. I say we stop ALL immigration. Too bad if foreign relatives can’t come for Christmas. Too bad if it hurts the tourist industry. It’s high time for the FBI, CIA, ICE, BP, Homeland, The Pentagon and The Hill start protecting the American citizen. Make ICE kick out all those who have overstayed their welcome. Give the BP permission to do their job. Give the military the arms they need and allow them to perform their missions as they see fit.
Several high ranking Democratic officials were spotted leaving the famed Capitol Hill watering hole Tortilla Coast. On the menu, discussions of Obamaâs decision to grant political asylum to 500,000 (mostly Muslim) Syrian refugees.
Following a report recently released from Amnesty International that Jordan had forcibly removed thousands of refugees to their home country, the Obama administration has decided to take action. âAmnesty is extremely concerned about this trend. While Jordan has made tremendous efforts to accommodate half a million refugees, and is facing pressures as a result, these do not justify such violations of international law,â says Amnestys Neil Sammonds, who worked on the report.
The UN has also released a report stating that Syrians in Jordan now account for 10 percent of the countryâs total population and Jordans economy simply cannot support such a large influx of immigrants. Approximately 2 million Syrian refugees have fled to neighboring countries in the region including Jordan, Turkey, Iraq and Lebanon. According to the report, 6 million Syrians are in desperate need of help and 4 million have been displaced due to the ongoing Syrian civil war.
The Syrian civil war broke out on March 15, 2011 and nationwide demonstrations grew large by April 2011 as part of the protest movement known as the Arab Spring. The protesters demanded the immediate resignation of President Bahar al-Assad, whose family has been in power since 1971.
National Report confirmed that Obama will announce his intent to grant refugees immediate citizenship status under the guise of political asylum (which triggers hefty monthly SS checks).
Camps are being setup in rural areas across the US to temporarily house the refugees complete with FEMA housing, temporary Mosques and schools.
