Former Vice President Dick Cheney condemned GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trumpâs proposal to ban Muslims from entering the United States.
In an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, Cheney said the plan, which Trump announced Monday, âgoes against everything we stand for and believe in.â
âI mean, religious freedom has been a very important part of our history and where we came from,â he added.
Cheney said that there is a âserious problemâ when it comes to refugees from Syria and other countries in ensuring they donât ârepresent ISIS.
âYouâve got to set up a vetting processâand thatâs crucial,â he said.

I don’t know of anything that W and Cheney did as far as restricting immigration after 911 when the USA should have been on lockdown from anyone that’s not an American. So they bear part of the blame for all these radical Muslims being here, overstaying their VISAS etc. What exactly did they do?
They have that EXCLUSIVE power under the Constitution, and prospective immigrants and visitors are not protected by any element of the Constitution, including the 14th Equal Protection Clause.
Or the 1st Amendment.
Or, for that matter the 5th...as demonstrated by our hundreds of drone strikes overseas.
In the 20's, immigrants were screened for health and disease, ability to support themselves short and long term, AND Religion and country of origin.
Eventually, everyone who has an emotional reaction is going to have to walk back their statements.
What Trump proposes is 100% legal and Constitutional, should Congress pass it.
In fact, a President Trump could probably use Obama's EOs as precedent to do it via EO.
That's how Roosevelt did much of his security work during WW II.
What’s happing in America has nothing to do with religious freedom. It has to do with TERRORISM.
WE DON’T LIKE IT AND WE DON’T WANT IT HERE.
DOESN’T ANYBODY GET THAT ..???????????????????????
It's been done during the Obama Maladministration!!!
You are so right! (see also #104 above)
I think Cheney is missing some of the details in the matter. Maybe he did not read about the Center for Security Policy’s survey results that said, “25% of those [Muslims] polled agreed that violence against Americans here in the United States is justified as a part of the global jihad” and 51% of Muslims polled, “agreed that Muslims in America should have the choice of being governed according to Shariah.” Maybe Cheney’s attention span is having troubles as he is getting older.
Now that I have given the nice spin on Cheney’s troubling comments, here is the the bad spin: Cheney has been influenced (blackmail?) by the Bush family to work for Jeb’s campaign. I expect to see more Cheney hits on The Donald who I expect to be the nominee. This shows the desperation of the Bush cartel.
Cheney should use his energies attacking der Hildebeast.
I can see where we can ban people from muslim countries from immigrating or deny visas to citizens of those countries, or foreigners who have traveled to those countries, or revoke the passports of those who travel to those countries. I don't see any way to put a religious test on traveling. Plus does Trump realize that he will need congress to pass the laws that will be required to put this in place?
All day long I have been reading people bitching about the current dope in White House trying to bypass the constitution and congress by trying to stop people on the "no-fly" list from exercising their second amendment rights, yet no-one on this thread is concerned about electing another president who considers the constitution as just another piece of paper to be ignored.
Please cite a single comment I made advocating that, or even saying I would tolerate it?
You made an assumption not founded in fact.
Extending that thought further, from a legal standpoint, will a U.S. Citizen have the right to claim a violation of Equal Protection because his fiance was denied entry to this country on the basis of religion. Or do you think that they would lack standing to sue?
Cheney certainly gets it wrong from time to time.
This is one of his worst examples > IMO.
Have a double bacon cheeseburger Dick.
LOL
Mmm, sounds good too...
That's an interesting question I don't have the answer to.
I SUSPECT no standing because he is not the one directly affected by the law, but it's quite possible a court will see differently.
What I find hilarious is that TIME magazine suddenly thinks Dick Cheney needs to be listened to and respected.
Ha.
Im afraid it accurate unfortunately
Dune coons
You bad....lol
My son is gonna laugh that up
>> “I mean, religious freedom has been a very important part of our history”
What about Nazism — is that not a religion?
I agree. I used to work with a hard-bitten dude from Jackson Hole who asked me if I knew who Cheney was back when Cheney was Sec Def. I said “sure”, and my friend said “Went to high school with him. Rich kid. Asshole.” Of course Don considered a wide range of people to be assholes, so it wasn’t that unusual. He also said that the family pronounced their last name “cheenie” back then and not “chainie” like we hear today.
