Donald Trump's proposal to ban all Muslim immigration into the US, including that of tourists, was met with an immediate and massive backlash from across the political spectrum.
Republican presidential candidates moved quickly to condemn their party's frontrunner, with Jeb Bush describing Trump as "unhinged" and Lindsey Graham calling on everyone seeking the presidency to denounce the plan.
"Donald Trump today took xenophobia and religious bigotry to a new level," Graham told the Guardian in an interview shortly after Trump unveiled his proposal.
"His comments are hurting the war effort and putting our diplomats and soldiers serving in the Middle East at risk. The way to win this war is to reach to the vast majority of people in Islamic faith who reject Isil and provide them the capability to resist this ideology."
Bush, the former Florida governor, responded on Twitter: Donald Trump is unhinged. His "policy" proposals are not serious.
"Donald Trump is unhinged. His "policy" proposals are not serious."
New Jersey governor Chris Christie said Trump's comments reflected "a ridiculous position and one that wonât even be productive".
"We do not need to resort to that type of activity nor should we," Christie told conservative radio show host Matt Medved. . (snip)

I agree with your take there. Thanks for your thoughts on it.
As right as right can be. I’m so disgusted at the minions who bounce around railing against this.
Dear God, let all the traitors continue to crawl out from the dark, so they are identified and remembered for all time.
Sickening
Fair point re: “Trump-ets” as name calling really doesn’t help plead the case. I’ll vote for Trump if he’s the nominee although I think Cruz is more qualified and hope he gets the nod. I don’t see any of the other candidates being able to defeat Hillary.
It’s The Guardian for goodness sakes! An uber-lib, uber-”Progressive” UK propaganda rag. Aside from professional politicians, probably more people from FR bother to read it than any other group in the U.S.
As usual Trump hits a homerun and all the pretenders are scratching their heads trying to hit a single.
You have correctly pointed out often how immigration is Cruz’s biggest weakness. My sense is that, before Trump got into the race, Cruz’s strategy was to go only as far as he needed to go in order to be the strongest candidate on immigration, so he took the ‘let’s secure the boarder, then have a discussion approach’. It was weak, but better than any of the other likely candidates. When Trump came into the race, it kind of forced his hand. His heart isn’t in it, but he knows the base wants strong borders and no amnesty, so he tries to avoid specifics on the issue as much as possible.
This is actually more realistic than trying to profile Arabs coming in because in many areas you practically need a microscope to tell one Arabic male from another, especially in their traditional garb. (probably not a coincidence). Additionally, the TSA is so incredibly incompetent that even if you could drag them into profiling they would probably be using a profile that was almost cartoonishly stereotypical.
Not surprised that both parties are against him - the Demoncrat opposition is expected, but the Republicans are afraid of being shown up as the useless oxygen-wasters who never do anything. IF Trump pulls this off they could be out of a job en masse.
Note to Senator Ted Cruz:
Islam, by its nature, IS “RADICAL” ... It is INTRINSICALLY EVIL - and, therefore, you cannot “reform” Islam.
The basic premise of Islam is that ONLY Islam must be allowed to exist ... That is not the opinion of “radical” Muslims - that IS the CORE TEACHING of THEIR PROFIT and THE QUA-RAN! The true “radicals” are those Muslims who do not follow this prescribed path - but they may, at any time and without warning, do so. And THAT is precisely why Donald Trump is speaking the unvarnished truth.
So, Senator Cruz, It is time to GET REAL. Our lives depend on it.
Unless the government can figure out how to separate foreign Muslims who are terrorists {such as the recent killer) from those who are not, that may be the only way to keep potential terrorists out. It’s the equivalent of keeping communists out during the Cold War or Nazis out in 1941.

BUMP!
Ted is simply letting Trump steamroll the media and the GOPe. If and when Trump is done, Ted Cruz can step in and fill those shoes.
BACKLASH BY WHO????????????
I AGREE WITH HIM
“I am a Christian!
I am not a bigot towards ANY other religion! So long as you donât inFRinge on my rights, you are FRee to practice your religion.
HST, Islam IS NOT A RELIGION! 6% of the Koran is religious â 94% deals with âother social, political and economicâ issues. Most of which involves ridding the world of Kaffirs!
Islam is a hateful, Evil, Satanic death cult; Sharia is diametrically opposed to the US Constitution. A âgoodâ Moslem CANNOT be a good American!”
BUMP to the doggone TOP!!
Great references, thanks.
Thank you. Your post 14 is a MUST-READ.
One good thing is that the GOPe have outed themselves once again by immediately joining the democrats and WH thought police , in condemning common sense, and attacking Americans worried about terrorism.
And another positive is that this narrows the presidential field considerably.
It is clear now that only Trump, Cruz -my choice ,(but very much appreciate Mr. Trump taking on PC and the media), and maybe 2 of the others, even "get it" about the terrorism threat we face from radical Muslims.
San Bernadino shooters were radicalized 'for quite some time' FBI says
Thanks, stephenjohnbanker!
Hopefully, enough Real Americans will wake up in time to save the Republic!
“Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country!”
“IF Trump pulls this off they could be out of a job en masse.”
Many of the Republicrats will be wearing orange jump suits in a Supermax!
I want to kick Islam out of America!
