Pardon me while I rant.

Police, fire fighters, medics are not the first responders. The first responders should be those on the scene who are not dead or too badly wounded to do anything.

If you are on the scene and not disabled, you are a first responder. Are you prepared to shoot back? Can you improvise a tourniquet to keep someone alive until the medics arrive? If the scene must be evacuated because of a fire, can you help others get out? Can you give a coherent story to 911? Can you get other people organized to help those who need help?

Think in terms of being able to respond immediately with emergency first aid until help arrives.

You are correct. In fact, “First Responder” classes are offered by various groups and they are basic First Aid/CPR should you be with someone who needs aid or happen across someone who does before police/fire/EMS can get on scene. A good example would be an accident scene - you can quickly assess airway, breathing, circulation & perhaps keep someone alive (clear airway, control bleeding, do CPR) until more advanced help arrives.

What these servants of Satan were after were the police/fire/EMS responding to the scene. Not technically “first responders”, but the next wave in the building aside from those already there ... the dead, wounded or those capable of being a ‘first responder’.

IMO, the media gets confused & uses “first responder” and people mostly assume they mean those responding via police/fire/EMS.

I carry two QuikKlot trauma kits and four israeli bandages in my edc bag.

Is that good enough?
