White people are bad, and everything they do is intrinsically racist. Especially when you throw free-market capitalism into the mix.
Nina Lakhani at the miserable, communist Guardian:
-----------
Coca-Cola issued a rare apology and was forced to pull an online advert which was deemed offensive to Mexico's indigenous people by consumers, media and advocacy groups in the country. The ad shows fair-skinned, attractive, young people turning up at an indigenous town bearing gifts of sugary fizzy drinks and a Christmas tree for the overawed locals. The company said its ad, set in the Mixe town of Totontepec in the state of Oaxaca, was meant to "convey a message of unity and joy". Instead, it "reproduced and reinforced stereotypes of indigenous people as culturally and racially subordinate", according to activists, who want the company sanctioned by the government's anti-discrimination commission.
-------
Sounds pretty bad!
Coke has taken down the ad, but some folks calling themselves Latino Rebels have put it back up. Because, as they put it, "the Internet is forever." Here it is:
No good deed goes unpunished.
Who is worrying about the indigenous peoples of Europe?
Is the ad on Youtube? Inquiring minds gotta know!
Thanks.
White people could bring sugary, fizzy drinks and a Christmas tree to the local Home Depot parking lot. :)
If they’re so worried about the Mexicans we can ship back all the illegals ones that are here stealing from us!
I once heard an ETO WWII vet say we won that war with planes and tanks and guns, but won the peace that followed with Cokes and Hershey bars.
There ought to be a total boycot of Mexico and its products. We know they don’t want to be contaminated by our filthy money.
It’s condescending. But so is the prevalence in advertising of white women with black mates while rarely depicting white men with black mates. I suspect blacks are offended by the depiction of whites “stealing our women,” but since whites would be called racists for objecting to blacks “stealing our women,” white reaction can be safely ignored.
Oh, the hugh manatee!
Truth in advetising would show a lovely young senorita bringing my peckerwood white ass an icey cold 1/2 Liter glass bottle of Mexican Coke with a plate of barbacoa, beans, rice, pico and tortillas on a hot August Hobbs, NM day.
I’ll also add that there’s an enormous amount of irony here: the Cokes from Mexico, made with actual sugar, are magnitudes better than the HFC-loaded Cokes made here in the States.
Coke never tested this on a focus group?
People look for reasons to be offended; find them
The ‘70s El Camino in the ad was in great shape!
