The “millions of patriotic Muslim-Americans who reject their hateful ideology” are not doing anything to counter it. There is no program in any mosque or Islamic school in the U.S. teaching young Muslims why they should reject the understanding of Islam that the Islamic State propagates. Obama’s solicitude for these patriotic Muslim-Americans rules out any possibility of understanding the ideology, motives and goals of the jihad terrorists — and that in turn rules out any possibility of defeating them.

“FULL SPEECH: Obama says ‘Freedom is more powerful than fear,’” PBS, December 6, 2015:
…Here’s what else we cannot do. We cannot turn against one another by letting this fight be defined as a war between America and Islam. That, too, is what groups like ISIL want.
ISIL does not speak for Islam. They are thugs and killers, part of a cult of death. And they account for a tiny fraction of a more than a billion Muslims around the world, including millions of patriotic Muslim-Americans who reject their hateful ideology.
Moreover, the vast majority of terrorist victims around the world are Muslim.
If we’re to succeed in defeating terrorism, we must enlist Muslim communities as some of our strongest allies, rather than push them away through suspicion and hate.
That does not mean denying the fact that an extremist ideology has spread within some Muslim communities. It’s a real problem that Muslims must confront without excuse.
Muslim leaders here and around the globe have to continue working with us to decisively and unequivocally reject the hateful ideology that groups like ISIL and Al Qaeda promote, to speak out against not just acts of violence, but also those interpretations of Islam that are incompatible with the values of religious tolerance, mutual respect, and human dignity.
But just as it is the responsibility of Muslims around the world to root out misguided ideas that lead to radicalization, it is the responsibility of all Americans, of every faith, to reject discrimination. It is our responsibility to reject religious tests on who we admit into this country. It’s our responsibility to reject proposals that Muslim-Americans should somehow be treated differently. Because when we travel down that road, we lose. That kind of divisiveness, that betrayal of our values plays into the hands of groups like ISIL.
Muslim-Americans are our friends and our neighbors, our co- workers, our sports heroes. And, yes, they are our men and women in uniform who are willing to die in defense of our country. We have to remember that….
Toooooooooooo late as it already “IS”!
Oh, you know how it is with Jihadists. Don’t dare believe
those LYING EYES of yours! - Look! Look! Over there!
Squirrel!!!!
Correct!
Then I'll just wait for Baraq al-Husayn bin Obama to start calling them "SIL".
Good question.
They don't know history.
They are. There are groups all over the US doing this. A bunch of Syrians in California ran a drive to raise $50,000 for the families of the vicitms.
Sam Colt and Smith and Wesson.
Your post really got to me. You are playing chess with this whole idea.
Peaceful, good Muslims right now are either lazy or scared to speak up about what is all around them. Muslims who agree with the jihadis. They are in every mosque.* The good ones are educating their kids, working (as your coworkers), caring for their elderly, living their normal American lives. And when they see the pro ISIS discussions going on in their mosque, they stay away. They ignore the nephew at the family table who espouses this stuff. They think they won’t make waves, they think they won’t get into trouble this way.
But the longer they stay quiet, the worse their fellow Muslims who seek this violence-born caliphate become.
And you nailed it: in the end, when civilization (and I hope the USA is still civilized when this happens) is hit just hard enough, MILLIONS OF THESE QUIET, INNOCENT MUSLIMS AND THEIR BABIES WILL BE KILLED.
Therefore, it behooves good Muslims RIGHT NOW to stand up and denounce their violent brethren. NOW. There isn’t going to be another chance. Islam is winning now, but we do have better weapons and one day we will need to use them.
Thank you for your post.
*after 9/11 I used to ask Muslim cabbies about their mosques, pleasant conversations, and always wove delicately in there a half question about “...but there are some people in your mosque who do support al Qaeda, right?” 100% of the time, every last guy, said that yes, of course there were people like that at his mosque, but HE didn’t agree with them or have anything to do with them. SYMPATHIZERS ARE IN EVERY MOSQUE.
What if a large group of patriotic Americans, conservative, even libs, gathered together and created a big media event for the American Muslim community to come out and denounce on air the kind of Islam ISIS and Al Qaeda practice? Get some big American imams to say that ISIS is not Islamic, not following the prophet correctly.
And if no big Imams will do it, and if their people won’t gather in huge numbers and denounce, the question is WHY??? And if good Muslims are afraid to stand up to ISIS, how is Islam peaceful? If good Muslims won’t stand publicly and denounce Jihad, THEN OBAMA BE DAMNED, ISLAM IS NOT A PEACEFUL RELIGION. It would be proven to be a religion of mass killers and their accessories.
So, they're part of Planned Parenthood?
Muslim-Americans are our friends and our neighbors, our co- workers,
Like that kook, Farook?
I don't mean to bash all Muslims, but just because they are our friends, neighbors, and co-workers does not mean they are safe.
Too late for that, numbnuts.
It was a war between mohammedanism and humanity ‘way back when Mad Mo’ himself was slaughtering and raping and thieving.
A good idea... but short-lived. It would blow over unless it remained high-profile and was repeated regularly and noisily.
Besides, it's easy to denounce violence. What they need to do is denounce their belief in Sharia, the Islamic law that commands them to act violently.
Perhaps they could be persuaded to buy TV and internet commercial time to denounce Sharia, and swear allegiance to the U.S. Constitution. That, coupled with their names and addresses, would begin to convince me that they were serious.
Anything less than that is Taqiya (Islamic lying).
