Dan Quayle says he's glad President George H.W. Bush picked him to be his vice president instead of Donald Trump.
Quayle discussed how Trump let Bush's camp know that he was interested in becoming the vice president in the 1988 campaign, during an interview with host John Catsimatidis on "The Cats Roundtable" on AM 970 in New York.

Oh by the way, I think that budget deal ( aka that broke “No new Taxes” ) was pushed by Darman and Sununu. They were the Establishment we are rebelling against now, we were to stoopid to know they were Shtuping us back in the day....
Well that didn’t help either. Bush never should have given absolutes. That is the dumbest thing any President can do. You never know what the environment is going to be when you get into that seat. It is EASY to say whatever you want while campaigning, but when reality hits you over the head, you are screwed if you promised something that is impossible to happen.

Shortly after the media contrived so-called controversy, Quayle said he spelled potato with an e at the end because the teacher spelled it that way in the class Quayle was visiting and he, Quayle, did not want to embarrass the teacher.
Meanwhile, Obama and Biden are a gaffe a minute.
Bush would never pick a VP more successful or well liked than himself.
That is why Bush picked Quayle. Because Quayle is a moron.

Agree too. He was considered smart and competent (and very conservative) when he was in the Senate. He was simply unprepared for a media as nasty then as it is now.

It is said that Darman came running into to the Oval Office screaming: “We got them, we got the Democrats!”
He was SO HAPPY with the promised budget cuts and that he FINALLY put to bed the “gridlock” claim of the media that he didn’t even care about the tax increases, or more likely, was clueless regarding the political cost.
The ONE PERSON that could have saved Bush on that was Lee Atwater, but the Dems managed to take him out with brain cancer (not sure how they did that, but it worked - maybe got something hot placed in his home).
Hmmm.... I thought Trump was a democrat? Trump identified as a Republican back in 1988. Another GOPe myth bites the dust.

Sometimes I am embarrassed to be a Republic when I see guys like this.
I have a good buddy who hired Quayle after the election. He ended up firing him for incompetence.
This shows that Trump was a Republican back in 1988. This goes against what has been posted on this board by the hacks.
