Ted Cruz Is the One Candidate Who Can Face down Washington — And Win [NRO!!!]

To protect American national security we must first understand what threatens American national security. We must grasp who our enemies are, what animates them, and how they work together - despite their internecine rivalries - to destroy us from without and within. We must stop trying to define "true Islam" and start restoring our own principles as our guide: liberty, equality of opportunity, the rule of law, and peace through strength.

The vast majority of Americans still believe in these principles. It is Washington that has lost faith. It is Washington that looks at liberty's enemies and sees friends; that looks at anti-Western Islamic supremacists and sees "moderates" it can play ball with; that looks at lawbreakers and tut-tuts that "the system is broken."

Reinvigorating American principles will require taming Washington. It calls for restoring the Constitution as a vital limit on government, not a relic...or an obstacle. Ted Cruz gets this. Many Republicans talk the talk - we hear it in every election season, right up until it is time to stop campaigning and start governing. Senator Cruz walks the walk. That is why I believe he should be the next president of the United States.

Andy McCarthy is seldom really with NRO’s simpering editors—he’s his own man.

Cruz has a handful of friends in both bodies of Congress. He is hated by the rest of them. It is safe to conclude that NONE of his “agenda” will pass, no matter how much we might like it.

Trump has the ability to cause some real, palpable misery for the Democrats in 2016. I know plenty of those “Reagan Democrats” that are counting the days until the election. And I know some ordinary Democrats who will be voting for him as well. One thing we FReepers don’t understand is that there are a decent number of Democrats who are disgusted that they will have only one choice. They can convince themselves to vote for Trump, but not necessarily Cruz. I still think that Trump, who so far hasn’t paid for a single poll to be taken, should pay for one poll — the state of New York. General election poll, including, Dems, Reps, and Indys. NYC usually buries the GOP, but in this case, this is his home territory and the state results might surprise. Btw, if the GOP picks up NY, election night will end early next year.

I want Cruz not for 4 years, but for 40 years. Put him on SCOTUS so I can sleep at night.

So true.

I don*t trust Cruz. His wife is a bigwig with Goldman Sacks. If he is so wonderful WHY hasn’t he spoken like Trump. What exactly has he done to help our country return to its former glory. NOT A THING. I love Trump since the only money sticking out of his mouth is his! Not so much with Cruz. Plus he reminds me of Green Acres , Mr. Haney.

Mmmm-hmmm.

Mmmm-hmmm.

I'm writing these down.

Telling that so much of the decision making process is left to feelings and intangibles. I detect a pattern, no?

No I’m not. I’m saying that Cruz would likely be depicted as ineffective and petulant, and Hillary would cream him.

And I say that as a guy that likes Cruz and would vote for him without hesitation.

Abrupt about face for National Review!

It's a mistake to lump all NRO writers together. They often disagree. This is Andy McCarthy. He's never been a RINO establishment type. And remember, Mark Steyn wrote for them for a long time. Not everyone on that roster of writers agrees with the establishment line, although many of them do.

There's no question or doubt how Cruz sees Reagan.....his office reflects that significance...as does what he says and does....Cruz doesn't just talk the walk....he walks it every day...

((.....”Cruz would likely be depicted as ineffective and petulant, and Hillary would cream him”......))))

She hasn’t a chance against Cruz in a debate and why she’ll avoid it at all costs.

Look, Cruzians - I understand Cruz is philosophically closer to Reagan than any other candidate. Plus, he's smarter than Reagan, and can debate constitutional law better than Reagan.

That's why he belongs on the Supreme Court.

But he has not yet demonstrated Reagan's terrific common touch and ability to bond with white working class voters. And he's been at this for eight months.

If it was going to happen, it would have happened.

NRO is just waking up to the obvious:

The attacks in Europe have re-framed our election slogan, “Cruz or Die” (at the hands of imported terror)

There is no candidate but Cruz that has the spine, and understanding to deal with it.

Cruz nor anyone else ‘IS’ Reagan.....and I’m not concerned with “touching” as much as I am substance and history of action supporting a candidates positions.....Cruz will rise at the right moment....and God oftentimes arrives in the affairs of men later rather then in mans time frame.

NRO is not the GOPe.

The GOPe are all the more fervently fighting Cruz, but to no effect.

Buckley's circus has simply had an epiphany that has severed their security blanket tie to the party establishment.

Trump is irrelevent in this discussion. He would need an adviser to guide him through the morass, so why accept second hand leasdership?

We're done with presidents by proxy.

Trump is not intellectually capable of being the true president. It would be another Presidency by proxy.

We need the real leader, Ted Cruz, and will not be fooled into accepting more Bread and circus.

I think she would be so far ahead before the first debate, it wouldn’t matter much.

Hitlery will not be in the running for long.

One of the big reasons is the pressure that Cruz puts on her will compound her medical problems causing her to break down.

The likelihood of Trump jumping over to the dems is growing larger every day, as he would have little opposition there. He didn’t want to spoil Hitlery’s chances, but she is fading.

OK, but I don’t see it at all and consider it more likely than not that she will win in 2016.

This brings me no joy.
