Thatâs a good reason to think Trumpâs strength will last into February. Realistically, no oneâs going to cut deeply into his hold on blue-collar voters. Cruz is trying but the more I watch him, the more I think heâs ultimately a bad match for Trump fans. Heâs trying to get to them entirely through immigration and tough talk about ISIS and the âWashington cartel,â but Trumpmania is more than that. Cruz sounds like a politician; heâs overtly evangelical, which, lord knows, Trump is not. And Cruz doesnât pay nearly as much attention on the stump to blue-collar economic anxiety as Trump does. If you like Cruz, you like him because heâs a warrior for conservative dogma. If you like Trump, you like him because he talks a lot about lost jobs. That, even more than immigration, explains why heâs north of 30 percent now. If you disagree, go look at some of the eye-popping numbers Trump has banked when Republicans are asked who they trust most on the economy. Todayâs CNN poll is no different:
I think it’s worth noting that this is a CNN poll, not a FOX poll, or an Internet poll on a conservative website.
While I wonder who answers phone polls (I never do), I’d expect any bias to be liberal if CNN was polling and interpreting the results.
What more people than I can believe don’t understand, is that Trump is basically hawking the Reagan platform in much the same way Reagan did.
When Trump does it, it’s... “Eh..., who cares, he’s a statist.”
Was Reagan a statist?
The MSM is just spin, but folks who follow politics have no excuse whatsoever. Trump is hawking Conservatism, no matter how many times folks exhibit the failure to be able to grasp it.
Now, we all know how the Senate works and how pretty much isolated Cruz is. Most of his stuff has only one co-sponsor, Lee. So to people who look in from time to time from the outside, it's easy to get cynical---not about Ted, but about the situation where it's VIEWED like he has no power, hence, won't be able to "change things."
I have to agree even though I’m a Cruz fan. I think that explains the divisions and the popularity of Trump. Cruz hasn’t connected (yet) like the Donald as he’s a bit too polished and a bit too nice to connect with the Thelma & Louise types. I stated earlier in the campaign that he needed to be more serious and even a little angrier. I like him because he’s a true conservative and we haven’t had anyone like him in a long, long time. It will be interesting to see what happens after Iowa or after the other lesser candidates drop out. Cruz may gain some support but it seems for sure that Trump won’t lose any of his. If Cruz does not rise sufficiently then I’m hoping for a Trump/Cruz ticket.

Cruz fans:
Great analysis...this is what Trump understands. He’s probably smart enough to use flowery words and pontificate forever on any subject. He realizes though that the vast majority of people in the US aren’t like that and immediately recognize polititalk. That’s why clinton doesn’t have a prayer against Trump. Cruz is conservative through and through but he needs to climb down from his Ivory tower and connect like Trump connects with the common man.
