I think I mentioned that many Pak women I know or met wear the attire. I did not reference India because it is Hindu. I was referring to Muslim women. Since I lived in Jackson Heights I saw saris every day and past the five or six sari shops on 74th St regularly.
The sari is the Indian national dress and Pakis, having been Indian not so long ago, retain the Indian dress. Islam in India is, in fact, a Hindu religion. Hindu actually just means the same as Indian. The Hindu religion insofar as we consider it as distinct from the other major religions is actually a congeries of cults and religions that were brought to the subcontinent over the millennia. The Thomas Christians of Kerala who have been there since circa 100 A.D. are Hindu as are the Sikhs. The Goa Christians don’t count because they have only been there for half a millennium.
